hello,

i have a ATI AIW All in Wonder Radeon graphic card

but i have a big hardware probleme to solve

a microchip is detached from the card, unsoldered and i have to solder it again
it is just 0.5 centimeter long and it has 8 pins to solder them again

it is, in fact a CMS component that is requiered precise micro-solder of O.5 millimeter

i have all the tools to solder this microchip again to the graphic card but i have never done this before

and i can't do a mistake involving a definitive breaking of my graphic card

also i need some advices to help me solder correctly since the first time without any mistake

maybe i have to peek up the rest of solder on the graphic card first, to clean it, ... ?

what is the exact procedure to solder a CMS micro-component ?

my tools are:

CMS solder 0.45 millimeter
pan 0.5 millimeter
unsolder band of 1.5 millimeter
micro iron solder of 14 Watts
a loupe X9

someone can help me ?

thanks a lot for everyone who can help me

Wow, u never heard of a joke- what u don;t think I laughed when I saw what u wrote in the classifieds? Reason I say that is cause I've seen it too many times, and it's kinda amusing. Anyways, dude, be safe and try Tiga 95- it's not gonna make u less of a man, just gonna be safer. See, the trick is to be able to use big soldering irons on a little chip and still get it to work (like I have done  ). Anyway, if you're gonna be a jackazz, u'r not gonna get a cookie from RCF. Oh wait, sig changed. ah well.

because i'm blind & paralyzed ? :D

Dude, if this is your first time, then u ought to use something easier, or have tons, and tons of practice. I spent a month practicing before I did it (then again, I didn't have a micro solder iron- I had a big one).

Dude, like I said, I had a large soldering iron- not a special small one. Mine's tip was huge, and I really needed to get good w/ it in order to accomplish my task. in your case, it'll probably take less time cause it's easier. hence, do it when u feel u r ready.

Lol, yeah, that usually happens when u conecntrate on something small for a few hours non stop. I didn't use a magnifying glass or anything- u can imagine what I felt like afterwards;)

now, you can laugh
why ?

because my AIW do not work yet [-peep-] of [-peep-] :frown:

the bios don't recognize it

the message error is

"DON'T FOUND VGA CARD OR VGA CARD MEMORY BAD"

i pay attention to use a small 14watts micro solder iron to not burn something
i have controled each contact five times with a X9 loupe
& i have even controled all the card, component after component for about 2 hours

so i think the CMS Component i solder is out or gc DDR SDRAM memory is crashed

now, i stop to play with & i send it back to ATI !!

but not everything is lost...

i have now an amazing loupe

i know,

i work about one hour again to hide this

i make micro-work again with my magnify glass ;) to take off the unnecessary solder on the CMS

you can know see the retouches just with a loupe

i hope this will be sufficient

i nevertheless hope ATI will accept it

if this chip is not the cause of the damage, this will be certainly pass

but if it is, i think it will be another history
