What kind of sowftware can i use to make backup copoes of our software CD's. I would like to make copies of our McAfee virus scan, creative web scan cd, video games, and other cds i have. This computer and software on it actually belongs to my family and they don't take that good of care of there stuff and i would hate to think what will happen when i move out. I have nero burning but, the lowest speed it goes to is 4x. I have no intention of coping games or other software i haven't payed for yet so don'y worry about that. I would just like to make copies of what i have. thinks.

Really depends on what, if any, copy protection is on the CDs. Sometimes you will have to use different programs for copying different things, there are a few things that can only be copied using certain hardware, but, these are limited. Everything can be copied. Just a matter of figuring out how.

CloneCD, BlindRead/Write (Both getting a little outdated), and Acohol120 are all good for this stuff.

What version of Nero do you have? I have both 5 and 6, but haven't tried to use it much for copying. Are you having problems copying stuff just using Nero?

There is a program called ClonyXXL, that is handy for determining what kind of copy protection is on a CD. After it tells you what protection method is on the CD, it gives you settings for CloneCD to copy it. Once you determine what copy protection is on a CD, google it, and you will find a forum someone with a thread, just about copying it.

So far there isn't a single thing in my collection that I have not been able to copy.

currently i have nero 5. where can i find clonyXXL? You mentioned clone cd, besides that what other type of software is there out there. I know you said that clone cd was getting a little outdated. Whats the cheapest for quality software that can coppy that i can buy?

I haven't used Nero5 in a little while, but from what I remember, it was capable to coping many things.

CloneCD works good for copying most things, I actually had to search quite a while for an old version of CloneCD (There was one particular version, that was the only one, capable of coping copy protected CD-G discs). Acohol 120, is generally the new preferred program, haven't used it personally, as CloneCD is normally able to handle everything I do. If you check other boards (even people here), most will recommend Acohol 120, it is similar to CloneCD.

ClonyXXL, is a seperate program that can be used with, CloneCD, its handy, even guages how difficult it is to burn a copy protected disc, and gives you tips on copying it. Try google, don't remember where I found my copy, as it could be considered questionable.

Alcohol 120 is by far my preffered program for copying protected software. All you have to do is look up the protection on the CD u want to copy, (or download somthing like ProtectioID to firgure it out for u) and select that protection from the list in Alcohol. It takes care or the rest.
