Networking Issues - Cannot See Machines Within Workgroup

I have 2 desktops networked/shared via a Linksys BEFSR41 router. I also have
an IBM Thinkpad on a WRT54G, which is 'piggy-backed' off the BEFSR41,
basically acting as a wireless access point. From either of the desktops, I
can see the laptop in the workgroup, however from the laptop I can see no
machines in the workgroup. The laptop can hit the internet, email, etc. but
cannot view the other machines to share files/printers.

Thanks

This is the usual result when routers are chained this way. To use the
wireless router as an Access Point you need to

1. Set the WRT54G to a static IP address on the same subnet but outside the
DHCP range of the BEFSR41.
2. Disable DHCP on the WRT54G.
3. Do not use the uplink port of the WRT54G, i.e. connect the BEFSR41 and
the 2 PCs to LAN ports only.

See http://www.ezlan.net/router_AP.html for a little more detail if needed.

I have the WRT54G set to 192.168.1.250, with DHCP swtiched off.

I have all 3 devices set to static IP addresses, would this have any effect?

That should be OK if they're all in the same subnet. From the laptop can
you ping the desktops? If so, can you view them if you run //desktopname?

All three machines are in the same subnet and I can ping the desktops via the
laptop. I'm not familiar with the command you suggested I try, sorry.

The fact that you can ping them is good. re. the other item 0

Click Start then Run. In the Open box type \\netname That's 2
backslashes and the network name of the other computer. It will either open
an explorer view of the shares on the computer or will report an error code
which will be helpful.

I receive the following:

\\penguins1

The network path was not found.

I receive that from the laptop to the two desktops and vice versa.

If you try the same thing using the IP address instead of the computer name
what happens?
Also, is there any firewall running on the laptop?

Using the IP nets the same results.

Yes, I do have Zone Labs running on the laptop, shutting it down and I can
now view the other machines and map a printer. What on the firewall do I
need to remove, etc?

Wish I'd thought to ask that sooner :) You can add the IP addresses of the
2 desktops to the trusted zone in Zone Alarm.
