I have a Pentium III 858 MHz I want to overclock.
How much can I overclock this cpu whithout getting a unstable system?
Do I need a better fan?
What is the work around to do this?
Where can I find dokumentation on this?

all cpu's have different limits, so theres no way to tell you how far you
can go. i might get unstable at 860, it might go all the way to
1200mhz...who knows...only you can tell us

Would have to know at least what motherboard it's on.

I presume it's a P-III 850 because there's no such thing as an '858'.

The only way to overclock a P-III is to increase the FSB but most 'Name
Brand' computer systems don't allow that and especially not with Intel
motherboards. Same thing with increasing Vcore, which is often needed to
reach a higher frequency.

As David said, there is no such CPU as a PIII858. It could be either a
PIII850 (with 100MHz FSB) or a PIII866 (with 133MHz FSB). Either way the way
to overclock is to increase the FSB, there is more opportunity for this with
the PIII850 because the default FSB is lower. However you need a motherboard
that allows you to do this, either via jumpers or in the BIOS, you also need
the rest of the system (esp. the memory) to be capable of running at the new
increased FSB.
Reading your motherboard manual is a good place to start.

There are also software solutions to increase the bus frequency .....
