Anyone else checking it out?

I find it pretty impressive, a fair sized step from the original. The options seem so complete that its hard to believe there will inevitabley be a half-dozen expansions heh heh. The only thing that takes some getting use to is that if your kid doesn't do the homework, social services take them away *permanently*, I don't remember that happening in the first one. I learned that the hard way...so my parents gotta hump out another. That and the fact that your Sims eventually die is very different.

The most wanted addition is the vacation days your Sims get, so hot tub parties and the like cIan be thrown. Has anyone else gotten this game, because I have a feeling it will sell pretty well...

I have been playing it since last couple of weeks. It's definately a huge leap from the original. Everything is better with Sims 2. I feel sorry for people who bothered to buy/pirate Sims expansions (after living large).

Loading times are annoying. Performance is OK with my AXP 2400+, 512 MB RAM, Radeon 9000 non-Pro @ 1024 x 768, max detail. Can't use AA with my card, that's something I miss.

Yesterday, I've got twin babies! Will have big problem managing them.

BTW, this Sims 2 review is worth reading. It's very different from other reviews, but summarizes the game nicely (and a fun read of course)

Same here! The game slows down every once in a while (like at the beginning or when a carpool shows up) on my R9800pro, 512meg RAM system. I'm thinking only a computer w/ 1GB+ of ram and a beastly CPU could run it smoothly.

"Carpool slowdown" is a classic Sims thing. Capool slowdown was also obvious in original Sims (I got Carpool slowdown in oriniganl Sims with 1 GHz Duron, way over minimum/recommended system requirement). I think you will get carpool slowdown even if you have the fastest CPU. But a faster CPU will definately help in Community lots, when lots of Sims arrive in your house, parties etc. From Anandtech Sims 2 benchmark, Athlon64 looks like a great CPU for this game. It's a a big memory hog, so 1 GB or more RAM should be good. I wonder how this game will run with 256 MB, the minimum requirement.

BTW, the Actiontrip reviewer played Sims2 with A64 3200+, 1.5 GB, Radeon 9800XT. He didn't have complete lag-free game experience either.

i went out and bought it.... got my sim to the top of his career relatively quickly... its just i fail to see what else to do with this game.... Ive been adding to my house making it cool and so on but not really sure where the game is taking me anymore i have nothing to aim for... my days consist of get up eat, work, come home, invite a sim over, screw, goto bed repeat.... maybe im missing the point but im getting a little bored even if i thought the game was fairly cool at the start.

I think in the Sims 2 they at least try to hold your attention my having your Sims die and allow you have your children continue the family's dynasty. I don't think I'll be bored until after a couple of generations, which could take a while.

I'm playing my 3rd gen adult + 4th gen. kids, and I'm getting bored with the game.

wheres the point in developping a sim so far only to have him die and have to start all over again?? ive been keeping my sim alive using the elixir of life repeatedly.... the next step was to ultimately get a kid and move on but I bought rome total war and thats been capitalising my time lately

Yeah, anybody should like Sims 2 to some degree, unless they're determined to hate it.
