I have a question.

can Windows XP's clear font feature smooth out the display of an LCD whose native resolution is 1600 by 1400 if it is run at 1400 by 1050? I'm asking because I'm in the market for a laptop with an ATI 7500 mobility chipset and Dell only offers a XUGA display with the 64 meg version on the website. I haven't tried calling yet. If anyone tried this I would appreciate your opinion. Also if anyone knows of any other company selling a laptop with a 64 meg ATI mobility 7500 I'd would like to hear about them.

Unlike crts lcds have an exact number of pixels that will only look perfect if the display is run at the native resolution. The effects of not doing this become less noticable as the size of the dots get smaller and if some sort of "smart scaling" is used. You need to decide for yourself if you can live with the scaling errors. Don't buy until you try.
