It appears that the printer utilities for the Epson Stylus Photo 890 and
presumably other printers do not work through the Apple Airport/Express
wireless connection -- as Apple warns in their documentation. The
printer prints reliably, but with both the Epson and CUPS driver the
Utilities option is greyed out in the Print Center. When the Epson
Printer Utility is started directly, it does not find the printer.
Is there a workaround (directly connecting the printer to one of the
computers here via USB is not an option), or failing that, is there a
technique to check which ink cartridge is low either with buttons on the
printer or perhaps by visuall inspection? The cartridges are
sufficiently expensive that I would rather not replace both if only one
is low on ink.
