I bought two almost identical gateway2000 machines for my wife's store
but without modem, and networked them together with a single wire and
two simple ethernet cards.. IIRC they were about 2000 each, maybe 2500.

dick

software installed in the last 5 years.

My first machine was a Packard Bell p75 with 8 megs of RAM
that my girlfriend outgrew.
She was among the group of people that went out and bought a machine as soon
as Win95 came out. i got the machine is late 1999 .

I was completely ignorant as to what 8 megs of RAM could do
and loaded a graphics program onto the machine.
Then I tried to cut and paste a photo...
nothing happened... so i tried again and again and again.
still nothing happened.
after trying to cut and paste about a dozen times...
the images slowly started appearing...one after another...
sort of like the broom scene in fantasia!
I think that eventually the entire harddrive was filled by the swapfile
and the thing ground to a halt.

that was quite a lot of fun <G>

i eventually put in a larger harddrive, 128 megs of ram
and a 200mhz overdrive cpu and used the machine for many years!

the machine was originally about $1600 (usd)

a few months back i assembled an XP2200+ based machine using
new and "salvaged" parts...it cost maybe $200 !!!! (not counting monitor of
course)

This is worth maybe $5.00

It will cost more to dispose of the junk than to buy it.

Run like hell in the other direction. I can make a better computer
from the parts in my refuse bin.

I had about a PC93 system (486 DX2/66, 120 MB HDD, 2x CD drive, 3.5
and 5.25 floppy, 1 Meg VLB video, Super I/O card, soundblaster
compatible sound, NEC laser printer, 14.4 modem). (Before I hade
varoius 386, 286, XT systems, as well as Commodore VIC and Amiga
systems).

I had about a PC 95 system, P90, 24 MB ram (probably 8 stock), 512 MB
HDD, 4x cD 1 Meg video (upgraded to 2Meg), Soundblaster audio. I used
my 14.4 modem with it until I got a 33.6 and eventually 56K.

My current system is an Athlon 1600+ system + pieced together in
summer 2002, with bits handed up from the P90 system (3.2 Gig HDD,
4x4x32 CDRW, Zip and floppy drives, 33.6 modem and other externals).
All PCI cards are new, with a cheap AGP video card I bought)
