computer won't shutdown completely

Hi,

Over the last few months I've noticed that my computer will not shutdown
completely and have been unsuccessful in isolating the problem. I hear the
click as though its ready to power off, but I can still hear the whirling of
the fans inside, which usually requires I use the reset button and shutdown;
this always works.

Antec SX635B II w/350 ps
Abit NF7-S (rev 1.1) MB
MSI GEforce4 440 8X agp
Leadtek winfast XP deluxe TV/FM Tuner
WD 400JB
WD 800JB
Optorite 2.01 dual dvd writer
Liteon 16X DVD
Intel Softmodem
Win XPw/SP1

I've seen this problem quite a few times, and it usually turns out to be the
video driver. Try a known solid version, usually WHQL.

go to http://support.microsoft.com and do a knowledge base id search
for 202633 and308029
it should bring up knowledge base articles on shutdown issues.

Thanks for the suggestions (the KB articles were a big ++), currently trying
everything out; I hope to narrow the field soon. I'll let you know how it
gets resolved.
