Can anyone suggest a good title for a laptop computer. I know FPS games are probably out, but I still enjoy RPGs,RTS, and others....Older games are fine, as long as they rock!!!

If an argument can't be settled in one or two paragraphs, perhaps you're anal and should just let it go...

I don't have a laptop (wish I did) but how about Diablo 1, Diablo 2 (with software renderer), Fallout 1 & 2, Civilization 3 , Bulder's (sp?) Gate. System Shock 2 might run on a modern laptop. It's old and not very hardware demanding but it is a lot of fun.

What kind of laptop do you have?

I play many games on my laptop, they generally don't have quite as high of frame rates, or resolutions as my desktop, but, my laptop even runs FarCry.

If you have a newer laptop, it should be capable of running many newer games. Obvisuly they won't look as good or run as fast as a desktop gameing machine, but they are playable.

I got a 8mb S3 chip in mine. It plays UT (the original), Warcraft 3 and TFT, Quake 2, Deus Ex (original). Should prolly handle Starcraft too.

Mobile XP 2600+ (11X200)
Abit NF7-S v 2.0
Maxtor 60GB ATA 133 7200RPM
512MB Corsair Twinx 3200LL
BBA 9800 Pro
Enermax Noisetaker 420 watts
Win2K sp4

First I just wanna say I hate you, envy you.... argh.. you've got the laptop I WANTED!

Damn IBM Canada and their Stupid Pricing $1700US, $3800 Canadian!

I settled for the DELL 5150 and it's P4 2.8GHZ-HT + FXGO5200 w/64mb plays alot of stuff ok, but D3 is sluggish even at low settings, everything else is good though.

Folken, have you tried runing 3Dmk05 on your laptop yet? I can't get it to run on the Dell (it will on my desktop, and 3Dmk03 and 01 run ok) and I'm trying to figure out if it's the amount of memory that is limiting the program, as I think it needs 128mb.

Anywhoo, I mainly play Morrwind, UT2K4, and GTA VC , but I will also be adding EA Sports' NHL 2003 on the laptop and I don't expect any trouble with those either. D3 wasn't worth it though, even plugged into AC.

I used to play NHL '98 on my older laptops because it'll run even on a P150 with 1mb video, and even MechWarrior2 played well on my second to last Thinkpad (PII-366 + 7mb shared video)

Rise of Nations is great, and GTA Vice City is of course, if your hardware can handle this.

3dmark05 does run on my laptop but it is SOOOOO slow that I'm afraid it is borkin my hardware or something so I stop it. That thing sure lays the smackdown on your system :)
My desktop machine only got like ~2200 ish. Can't expect more from a lowly pentium, lol.
I want to put together an opteron machine and see what it gets.

You should be able to play all of the Balrur's Gate and Icewind Dale games great. You could also give Lionheart and Grayhawk: Temple of Elemental Evil a try.

also if you want a space combat sim you might check into (freespace 2)source code project. it will run on a p2 400 and a tnt2 so your laptop will handle that fine too.

Been a while since I checked this thread (went east on business right after this). DAMN! If it's not the ram (3Dmk05 works on your 64mb R9600, then there's something F'ed with the FX series even in 'GO' format [well isn't that surprising  ]).

Oh well I'm very disappointed with the fit and finish and miss the Trackpoint terribly. I'm probably going to sell mine to a guy at work for the cost of a G-series T-pad (lose money but gain the feel I like [and a properly laid out keyboaard!].

My next desktop is going to be an AMD64-939 still waiting for the MOBO, my current one gets 1600 . I think I may go with a GF6600 plain jane (gigabyte selling for $130US right now) when I do the initial build, just to hold me over until the R520/NV5x hit the market.

Anywhoo, I evnvy your rig. Sure mine will play alot of things, but I'm overall dissapointed. I mainly play DVDs, Morrowind, and the others I listed on rarer occasions. For DVD & Morrowind it fine, but just not as satisfying as my previous T-pad. Also the DELL blew a circuit breaker (it did reset) when I was on the plane, so I have a feeling that true gaming using in-flight power is out of the question, and full tilt gaming (with newer titles) by battery is a hour affair at best even with the extended battery I got.

For most peopler the Centrino/Dothan you got would be my recommendation, since it's just the right balance of power and power consumption. Sure my laptop can calculate pi quicker than yours, and do video editing a bit better, but it comes at a price of losing the true mobility of battery life.

LOL! I just looked at your 2 RIGs specs, you have the same slot-loading Pioneer DVD player I have. Dang I wish more people did that with BURNERS, I love not needing a tray!

I searched all over for a slot loading burner but it just isn't around. There are laptops with them no desktops, it just isn't fair. lol.

I hear ya man!

I love my LG burners (gonna get a 16x dual layer for the new rig), but I'd buy a slot loading burner in an instant!
