I'm pissed off with the rules regarding Tom's 10th Anniversary Contest.
The contest prizes are only available to citizens living in USA.
THG is an international publication.
Contest prizes should be made available to anyone who vists THG.
If contest prizes can only be awarded to a specific nationality then the contest is biased.
I'm so pissed off about the contest I want THG to make the rules of eligibility for a contestant specifically for American WASP's only.
F.You Tom. I'm sick and tired of reading about how you and some other nerd discovered the flaw with the PIII 1133. It was six years ago. Haven't you done anything since then? And the new news articles are too long and repeat the same crap over and over again. I read the first few pages, skip the bullshit benchmarks and read the conclusion.
The only thing I like about THG today are the Forums. Oh and I think calling the Forums "Forumz" is too geeky.
Personally, I want to know the reasoning for it only being applicable to Americans. However, I do not think THG is that bad, although they need to take the suggestions in "TG Website Discussions" section seriously, and not just blow them off.
I'm joining the cause.

I will freely admit that I didn't read the rules, but is the whole contest opened to US only, or only the Computex trip? I could totally see the airfair / security issue, but if the whole contest is that way, that's wrong. Shipping the prizes to Europe / Aisa / Africa / Canada can't be that much more than shipping within the US. Plus, I'm sure that won't be the first time Tom's paid for international shipping...
I'm sure there's more to it than just shipping/airfare concerns. There are probably completely different rules for contests & giveaways in every country. I work in a regulated industry - regulated by the states, so to work in all 50 states in the US we have to have contracts & documents that are (sometimes only slightly) different between each state, in addition to annual reports to each state and audits and...
If the diffferent countries are anything like the different states in the US (and I expect there to be even larger differences), then its no surprise that this is limited to the US.

Add the text too, it does not really make sense with only the link. Then I'd like to see Aaron's reaction!
Hey, I had nothing to do with this. Honestly, I get into trouble for rolling out of bed in the morning... and umm, my hard drive is dead, so leave me grieve in peace. *runs*

Because they need to limit the playing field. A lot of factors limit this.
Do you want 2 million people or 15 million people?
Do they want to arrange an international flight, pay all the extra fees, go through with security, etc?
Same reason my Bud Light trip was only available to the US, excluding Canada. It's just a pain to go outside borders to arrange for this stuff.
Limited resources for THG probably plays a big factor, plus they want someone who speaks English.
My rant is in regard to swag being available to Americans only including the notebook computer prize.
For example if one of the swag prizes were a 1GB USB key I don't think it would be very difficult to ship the prize to a winner in Brazil.
As for winning a prize that was travel orientated why even bother to offer it with all the difficulties involved?
I doubt the prizes in the now defunked contest were purchased by THG. I would think all the prizes were donated by companies for free advertisement.
The contest is dead so the thread should be locked to new posts. The forum's members voices were heard and THG did what was appropriate and cancelled the contest.

Am I missing something? I just checked the link and the contest seems very much alive. Is there a link to where it's cancelled? A notice?

Yeah the links work, but you tell me if you can find it anywhere else through the News page, Hardware page, etc. I couldn't, so some noob probably couldn't (maybe I'm blind).
SO it has been called off then, and our voices have been heard?
I sent a PM to Fredi to find out what is happening with the contest.
I also asked Fredi to lock the thread.
I'm in a better mood today.
The contest is still on, just moved to a banner ad notification - if you block ads, you won't see it. Zpyrd asked that this thread be locked (he PM'd Fredi), so I am locking it now per Zpyrd's request.
