Folks,

I've just installed a 3.5" USB2 connected memory card reader into my system
which until two days ago was fine and dandy. Now when I go into My Computer
the drives have all disappeared and inserting either a compactflash card or
an SD card does nothing to bring the system back up. The card reader also
features a USB port which still works.

Any ideas what may have gone wrong?

Thanks!

Mine does that sometimes. Do a cold boot and it comes back. Just a
"start/shutdown/ restart" command from Windows doesn't cut it. It seems to be
recognized right after the POST and if it isn't then Windows won't see it.

If your USB ports are set to use 5VSB power (usually by a jumper
setting near that USB port or pin-header) try non-5VSB mode, only
5V mode. IF that solves it, would probably be due to the power
supply not having sufficient capacity on it's 5VSB rail, or a
degraded function of that circuitry in the power supply.
