I'd like to use my Nokia 3360 as a modem to connect to the internet. I
have a Toshiba laptop - do I need to download sofware? Do I use my
infrared on my cell phone? Do I need to buy some sort of a cable to

Not really, although Cingular does sell a "Data Connect" software
package for $20 to simplify things.

Yes.

No- use IR.

First, call Cingular and tell them to add "Wireless Internet" to your
account. The 3360 is a TDMA phone. Unlike with Cingular's GSM
service, where everyone gets data service by default, you need
Cingular to turn it on for TDMA (unless things have changed in the
last year.)
Now go into the internet settings on the laptop and configure a
"Generic Hayes Compatible Modem" over your IR port, uncheck any "wait
for dial tone before dialing" boxes, enter your ISP settings (phone
number, user name, password, etc.) activate IR on the phone (Menu 11,
IIRC) line up the Tosh and 3360 and attempt to sign on.
Cingular TDMA will give you the blazing speed of 9.6kbps, so you get
to experience what the internet was like 10 years ago! ;-)
help from anyone would be GREATLY appreciated!
