ABIT NF7-S2 and Barton XP2800 settings?

Hiya,

Have the above mobo and a Barton XP2800+ CPU. It has defaulted to 166 with
a multiplier of 12.5 and the RAM is running at DDR333. I have 1GB of PC3200
RAM. Should this all be running at 200 rather than 166?

Build all my own kit but I'm not an overclocker so dont understand all the
settings but this just strikes me as 'not optimised'? Any help on the
correct BIOS settings for this combo or pointers to a site with the info
would be very much appreciated. Looking for optimum stock settings first -
not O/C (yet) :)

Many thanks, Shaun

No, nForce2 is best left at synchrnous FSB:Mem speeds, which are
determined to be 333 based on the CPU.

SInce you're not an overclocker, the speed is correct.
"Optimized" would mean most efficient, and there is no gain in
efficiency by having a FSB that bottlenecks a higher memory
throughput, and additional buffering to facilitate the difference
in bus speeds. Instead, running the memory at sync'd speed
typically allows faster timings @ 333 than it would at 400.

The optimum setting without overclocking would be to set board to
"auto" or "SPD" for memory, and at synchronous, 1:1 or "100%"
memory bus speed.

Many thanks Kony, that 'kind of' makes sense. I'll read it through a few
times until it sinks in properly. Appreciate the reply. Shaun
