I like to exercise my right to bear arms. I think it's rediculous with all these pansy-assed, guns-kill-people frame of mind people trying to put laws that are as strict as possible on guns. Why not use pepper-spray or a tazer? Reliability. I will use whatever means necessary to protect my family and myself. I'm sorry but a tazer and pepper spray aren't going to cut it for me. Whats your take on the Right To Bear Arms?
This is going to be ugly.

Oh yes
i support it fully.
And I like to exercise my right to bare arms[/Larry]

Indeed. You are a military man no? If yes, its not surprising that you support the RTBA.
No restrictions - just pass a background check ... we're Americans, we know what to do! 8)
its not even that, maybe it was the way i was raised, protect your kind no matter what i guess.... [shrug]
but yes im a military man. like i said in the other thread, the origianl reason for RTBA was just in case the govt got out of hand and we(the citizens) had to deal with them.
KATN!

Interesting that you say, "interesting"

At night, if my door opens and I hear "intruders inside" ... yeah, they ain't gonna make it 8O
I know where my family is, be sure of that ... and I know who ain't suppose to be inside ... anybody but Susan and me, and Susan is here beside me ... so, 12 gage city ... 8)
*says, "Intruders inside."*
make sure susan knows that lol, not to be an ass, but i came in my dads house after he had just got an alarm(that i didnt know about, was coming to suprise him on a visit) and met a .45 springfield in my face. well needless to say(unfortunately for you guys) im still here luckily, of course
LOL ... that ain't funny, but ... we've actually rehearsed it. She rolls off the bed against the wall ... I "lock and load" (chamber) a 12 gage round ... you know that sound at night, when it's dark and you think you have surprize ... it's a chilling sound, to say the least ... will absolutely freeze a break-in man's sh|it ... 8O
WTF where you doing trying to sneak into a gun owners house without notice ... that can get you killed ... sorry, but true
oh i agree with you 100%, as long as you practice it or atleast know the plan, someone is less likely to get hurt/injured/dead. thats when people start caring about gun control, when people get killed for accidents, then its not the individuals fault, but the govt who allowed them to carry the guns in the first place(bs in my opinion.)
btw, it was completely my fault i got a gun pointed in my face at my pops house, wasnt the first(and prolly wont be the last) he stated, "youre lucky i didnt pull the trigger", i said "you would be lucky if i didnt survive."
we both understood each other completely and from then on i have called before i came in.
regardless, he was doing what he needed to do to protect his household, as a bystander, i wouldnt have faulted him even if i had been killed.

My wife and I were M.P.'s in the Army and we both own Beretta's. However, none of that M9 9mm bulls*hit. We carry nuthin but .40's and 45's. Beretta makes a great S&W .40 cal.
Anyways, point is, I feel for anyone who tries to break in our house. My wife was one of the few females in our unit who could shoot expert w/ the M9. She was also good at night fires.
I just equipped my Beretta 96FS w/ tritium night sights. Those things are awesome. The army should equip soldiers w/ those.

Leave the Right.... Right where it is....Just keep the military fire power where it belongs...with the military...
Reading this, I have no idea what I'd do if my apt was broken into at night... making me paranoid!
I could make a ton of noise and throw stuff at the buggers... *ponders what would be at hand* You think a vibrator flying into your head would hurt?

Pepper Spray sucks. I've only successfully used it 2 times- the rest of the times it was a bust. When someone is drunk or high (which is what you deal with 75% of time as a law enforcement officer), it has very little affect. It's great for dogs though.
Tasers are ok. I've never actually used one, but I've heard anecdotal accounts from my cop buddies that they usually work. Again, in some cases when ur dealing with someone on drugs and they're already mentally deranged, tasers don't work so well.
I definitely advocate the use of tasers instead of firearms in the majority of situations (fights, domestic disturbance, knives, etc). But if a dude has a gun or rifle- I'm using a gun.
A well kept handgun almost never fails. Especially a .45 ACP or a .357 revolver.
Quote : I've only successfully used it 2 times
When have you ever had the need to actually use it?
Quote : A well kept handgun almost never fails. Especially a .45 ACP or a .357 revolver.
That is if you have any aim at all.
I was an M.P. in the Army. Had to use it all the time...
One case was rather straightforward. 2 drunk soldiers were fighting outside a night club on post. For whatever reason the spray we used worked. They just hit the ground and started puking, crying, etc. I had a similar situation in which the pepper spray didn't work at all. It's hit and miss with that crap.

Roger that. Though in a close quarters situation, aim isn't necessarily critical w/ a .45. Even if you hit the guy in the arm or leg, he's going down. I've got a .357 6 inch GP100 Ruger that has almost no recoil with a .357 round. That barrel absorbs most of the recoil. Shoots like a 9mm.

oh, thought you meant out on the streets. Maybe it depends on the brand? Not sure why you would puke though, I lov the taste of pepper[/irrelevent]

LOL, very true, especially with a .45 .
lol... not on the streets. they puked because they were drunk. pepper makes you feel like you can't breath and can cause gagging.
but yeah- it does depend on brand sometimes. i've seen some brands work better than others. it's wierd. i personally prefered pepper foam- that way ur not spraying ur partner or anyone else in the vacinity. that and you can see what you're hitting a little better...
slightly off topic, but last summer some kid let loose a can of bear spray in one of our food shopping centers... about 300 people were evacuated and doused with saline heh
he got in BIG trouble by his mommy, think he was like 14 or something

Glad he didn't do it in the woods... would've had bears running at him from miles away... [/lame]
Mike.

ahh, never been sprayed by it (or sprayed someone), so never knew that.

That makes sense.

How idiotic is that?
Quote : Glad he didn't do it in the woods... would've had bears running at him from miles away... [/lame]
yeah that was lame. Bears would have run away, not vice versa.
However, back on subject.......the best defense against bears is a gun. So it is not really that bad to bear arms. Pepper spray just is not tough enough to work on bears (I used to have family in Alaska), and I'd rather defend my self with a gun then get eaten. It is quite possible that fishermen in Alaska will encounter bears, my family saw them multiple times on one trip alone.

Heh, I was remembering a joke that makes its way around the 'net every fall when hunting season gets close - you can tell one bear dropping from another by the smell of pepper spray.
But besides that... I'm not a bear, but if I were and someone sprayed pepper spray in my face (and thats not likely to take a bear down as you admit) I wouldn't be running 'away'...
Mike.
Quote : But besides that... I'm not a bear, but if I were and someone sprayed pepper spray in my face (and thats not likely to take a bear down as you admit) I wouldn't be running 'away'...
Exactly my point; this is just one justification for the right to bear arms: defense. Another is hunting.
However, laws need to be tougher, so that these same guns are not used for bad purposes such as violence. Therefore, my opinion on the issue is that not all guns are a bad thing, but there should be some restrictions. For example AK-47's should never be allowed as a civilian gun. In addition, since some people use .50's for sport (shooting at targets a mile around a half mile away), there should be tough laws restricting the sale of them. If they get in the wrong hands (which they have), you can only imagine what will happen. Everybody who owns one should be documented along with documentation of the guns, and places that sell them should be limited. Good can be done with guns, you just have to take measures to make certain they are not used for bad. *IMO*
You oughta watch Penn & Teller's episode on "gun control."
It's enlightening. I have it here in my office on DVD, would you like to see it? I'll send it to ya w/ return label.

If its the one google video has just google "penn teller gun episode".
Whoops - meant to be to krazykid. (I know, its misspelled ... yah, it would've taken less time to correct the spelling than type this ... I'm just that way I guess...)

Wow, I went to google and this is the result I got:

But I noticed my original also had 'control' - but either worked. You did that in the main google search, right? Not images, or froogle, or...
Insult? Nawww - but you are a crazykid
Mike.
I personally don't know anyone with a taser, so I have a question that is probably stupid.......are they commercially available?
