I have the iPAQ 5500. My question is regarding saving files to Main Memory
or to iPAQ File Store.
If I am in Pocket Word and I close a new file, it is automatically saved to
Main Memory. Then I can click on the file and hold it and select Rename/Move
and in the location: box it shows it is in Main Memory. I then select iPAQ
File Store, and click on OK.
Now the file name icon has a floppy disk added to the lower right of the
icon.
Did this pull it out of main memory and now is stored out of RAM and into
ROM or some type of EPROM?
NOW the file Does Not show up in Windows Explore on the laptop or in File
Explorer in the iPAQ, when it did when it was stored in Main Memory!
Does this also mean that when I perform a full backup, anything stored in
iPAQ File Store will not be backed up?
Why store in iPAQ File Store?
Also if I added a SS card for extra memory, how will this affect the backup
process and viewing it from the laptop?

It is now in the user accessible area of FlashROM.

Right. ActiveSync only syncs files in main memory, not on storage
cards or flashROM. Use MightSync to get around this -

Depends on the software. Many won't but some will. Sprite Backup will
allow you to back up the FlashROM.

Because it is more or less permanent. If your battery dies or you hard
reset your device, 100% of the files in your FlashROM will be safe.
Files in your main memory will be gone.

Not sure what you mean by SS card. If you mean SD (Secure Digital)
your laptop will treat it like the FlashROM - ie, pretty much ignores
it. The exception to that is Windows Media Player on your desktop. it
can move files to your SD card quite easily.
