patches for MAME?

I've decided to attempt to "get back into" MAME a bit more than I have
lately. I've been away from the newsgroups, grabbing latest roms, latest
version, etc., for about a year (maybe less). A year ago, I was compiling
my own version of MAME with a handful of neat patches that I liked.

Googling this group a bit doesn't turn up a lot of patch talk lately.
Have patches to MAME been discouraged within the community? I remember
getting a set of patches from someone called "SA Dev" I think that made
the sound in Donkey Kong better as well as some other niceties (skip
frames on startup and some others). But the link I found to his site no
longer works.

The main reason I compile my own MAME is to get the gear shifter working
correctly in Pole Position (and other racing games). I have an actual
gear shifter on my cab and don't like the toggling default action in MAME
(it would be nice to make that a user customizable thing). I've always
figured that if I was going to go through the trouble of compiling my own,
I might as well check out whatever patches are available to tweak my build.

I see that MAME Analog+ is still around (at least it was at v0.90), and
that's good.

My tweaks are still available, but the DK samples were finally brought into
MAME so there is no need for a tweak for that any longer!

Here they are:

Enjoy!
