I must confess I am a huge Simpsons fan, and have a large collection of episodes on VHS Tapes. I would like to move them to a digital format like mpeg (Divx) on PC so that I can watch them without degrading their quality. What is the best way to do this that won't cost more than $500? (Hardware and Software) I know very little about this process, and any help would be appreciated. Thanks

You need to capture them and then digitise them. You probably want to edit them too. You can maybe do it through a camera that has a video input and a firewire output which will mean they go to dv tape first then onto the computer, allowing you to get a cheap firewire input. Or maybe get your hands on something like a Pinacle DV500 which has both sets of inputs. Thats all I can suggest. Maybe someone in the forum knows a cheaper way.
