I have Kingston Value Ram installed. I want to add more memory.
Although I took the number off the chips, the Kingston site doesn't
recognize it.

At some time in the past, I remember some program that actually read the
chips and told me that the actual vendor was Infineon. But I can't
remember how I found this out, nor how to get all the information about
this memory so that I can match it when I add two more dimms.

Also, my memory is that this is cl 3 - what happens if the new chips I
purchase are cl 2.5? Asus board.

Thanks.

It may work, may not, but probably will if it's the same mfr. I would buy
another stick of the same RAM, and call them for clarification if necessary.
Also, if you can run in dual-channel mode you'll need an identical stick.
In any case, the system will run at the speed you set in the bios, ideally
the slowest of the two sticks (CL3).

Also, check at www.mwave.com for good prices on Kingston. I bought mine
there and their prices are cheaper than the Kingston site.

I have 2 mismatched generic DIMMS in one machine here and have suffered no
ill effects. One is CAS 3 and the other CAS 2.5.

To identify ram another other systeminfo:

http://www.sisoftware.net/
http://www.cpuid.com/
http://www.lavalys.com/products/overview.php?pid=1&lang=en&pageid=1

Go to memory manufacturer sites and use their memory selection tools to
find memory they recommend for your system or motherboard.

Enlighten us with as much detail as possible, as we might know.

Thanks - I just used cpuid and it gave me all the necessary information.
One thing confused me: under the memory tab, there is a box that says
"performance mode" and it says "disabled".

What does this mean and should it be disabled? I'm running an Asus
P4C800-E Deluxe P4, 3.2 Northwood - presently with two Kingston Value
dimms, 512 each - which are actually Infineon.

Haven't got a clue.
