I'm bashing my head against a wall trying to get my PDA to access the
Internet via bluetooth.

I have a PC with a bluetooth Dongle, I have paired my PDA with it and can
access the computer via the PDA to view network drives and access the
computers shared folders. I cannot however, get the PDA to access the
Internet via the PC.

Can someone please tell me how to do this, it should be fairly simple but I
am at a loss, I have tried the Internet sharing wizard but it doesn't work
and comes back saying there was a problem, how can I do this manually

Please help any suggestions will do!!

Hi
Not sure if this helps, but I have no trouble accessing the internet
over BT when my pc is connected. The pocket pc needs to have ActiveSync
up and running, then I just start up pocket internet explorer and enter
the web address into it. There may be other ways that I have not found yet.
I have an hp 2210 and my pc runs with windows 98.
Good luck
Geoff

Have a look in our Bluetooth Guides (link below)

Accessing over ActiveSync is easier as pointed, but bandwidth is low
compared with a LAP or PAN connection. The reason for that is because AS
uses part of it to keep things in sync.

Thanks for the info. However my PPC is connected to the PC under active
connections. I open IE on the PPC type in a URL and I get the following
message "The Page you are looking for cannot be found"

I have missed something (oh and my OS on the PC is WinXP Pro)

I have The following Icons in the bluetooth manager :

Dial-Up Using (my nokia)
Internet Via PC
Network Via PC

When I tap on the Network Via PC I get the "connecting" Message and then I
can open the PPC File explorer and type in the path to a shared folder. This
works ok

Right now I disable the above connection

Tap on the Internet VIA PC and this is what happens

It says connecting then it asks me for the network logon I type in a valid
user name for the PC and the correct password (as I have passwords set up
for all users on the PC) I then put the workgroup name in the domain box.
It then says connecting... I get a nice ding sound and if I go to "active
connections" it says I have Network Access to my PC (under the outgoing
connections).

Next I open up IE on the PPC and get told that "The Page you are looking
for cannot be found" grrr

Active sync works as Internet access but I don't want to use this I want to
walk around my house and use the PPC on the net.

Still tearing my hair out, not much left now :(

Make sure the Pass Through connection of ActiveSync (PC Side) is set to
"The Internet".

The PC that has the bluetooth does not have active sync on it, I use another
one for that purpose

When it asks you for credentials don't enter anything - simply leave blank
and check the "Remember password". IF you enter anything it'll not
authenticate. This authentication is with the local PPP server created by
Bluetooth, not with your Windows box.

Next, download and install VxUtil and try pinging www.wired.com after
connecting via Bluetooth. If it works, then run \windows\welcome.exe to
recreate a couple of configuration files used by Pocket Internet Explorer.

"Bluetooth Internet":

What I've done is establish an Active Sync connection with my 2210 via BT,
and leaving AS connected, I have internet access. I cannot browse directly
because the laptop with my BT dongle insists that I don't have a BT device
connected, even though I can Active Sync via BT without issue!

So I just leave AS connected and can browse the same way I would if
connected to the cradle.

I have entered some details here ie: I have typed my username and password,
I take it that this is now a problem?

Thanks

Yes. You can delete the Connection and delete the icon on Bluetooth Manager.
Then create it again, but leave the credentials empty this time.

Please look for VxUtil, download and install it (it's free). Then try
pinging www.wired.com

If it resolves the name correctly then run \windows\welcome.exe on your
Pocket PC.

If not, then add the DNS server addresses to the Bluetooth LAN adapter
configuration on your computer.

Internet via ActiveSync should be on by default. As soon as you have
ActiveSync connected you should be able to browse. Check the ActiveSync
configuration by clicking Options | Rules. The Passthrough section should
read The Internet.

It means that your Pocket PC is not connected or was not assigned a valid IP
address. You should have an address like 192.168.0.2 or up. It seems like
there's something preventing the DHCP server on ICS to assign an address.

Make sure you don't have the use/password on this configuration
Make sure the configuration on your computer is EXACTLY like in our guides
Enter the ISP DNS address on the Bluetooth LAN adapter on your computer
Make Zone Alarm aware of this communication, or change Norton IS, or change
the Windows Firewall, or... you get the idea

A quick question here, is there any way to autoconnect via bluetooth?
Currently I have to manually connect via the Bluetooth manager, is there a
way to have Internet explorer (or any other app that needs the internet) to
initiate a connection?
Also is it something with my setup, seems bluetooth loses the connection a
lot? Does it disconnect when idle?

If Bluetooth is the only connection defined it used to connect
automatically. I don't think it does on wi-fi equipped Pocket PC, like the
h4150. If yours doesn't then there is no other thing to try.

It shouldn't disconnect. I've copied 100MB folders from one desktop to a
laptop, and some pictures to SD cards over Bluetooth, quite a few minutes
here, and didn't have problems. It may be that your USB is configured to
allow the system to power it off to save energy?

Ok I have set the pc bluetooth dongle to have the following

IP 192.168.0.1
Subnet: 255.255.255.0

Primary DNS: 217.10.137.165
Secondary DNS:217.10.137.137

My PC also has a ethernet connection, details are:

IP 10.0.0.5 (assigned by DHCP from my ADSL router - which is stand alone on
the network with an IP of 10.0.0.2)
Subnet 255.0.0.0

Now on the PPC - I tap on bluetooth manager, then tap on the Internet access
via my pc, this connects and is show under active connections. signal
strength is good. I also cannot view the PC's shared folders anymore either.

I run VxUtil it still says that the PPC ip address is 127.0.0.0

If I connect via my nokia 3650 on GPRS i can get on the internet
I can ping any valid IP from VxUtil

I am REALLY stuck now as I dont understand why I cannot even see the shared
folders anymore, when I used to be able to transfer files betwenn the PC and
the PPC

Boy this is really P***ing me off

I have connected once again to the PC via bluetooth

VxUtil However says the PPC's IP address is now 169.254.91.4

Where the hell did that come from? The pc's bluetooth IP is 192.168.0.1

I still cannot access the PC's folders anymore and the Internet sharing
connection still comes back with the PPC's IP address of 127.0.0.0

I have used your forums infomation to set this up but I am still at a loss

Thanks
