Halo 2 And HL2.....

I do not want to start a flame war here. I've been torn between getting and Xbox w/ Halo 2 and getting HL2 gold pack. I've been looking around to see all the reviews of both games, both acheive the best of their system. Now i must decide which to buy, but i want both. So to decide which one first I have done a little searching on the sales records of the originals. I have found tha Halo has sold approximately 5 million world wide!! That's huge, and Halo 2 has sold 2.4million already!
I also found something that was even more amazing, Half-Life 1 has sold over 10 million copies world wide!!!!!!! Holy crap!!! Since HL sold 2x as many copies I think I'll get HL2 first and then Halo 2 after(like in a couple of months). And to answer the best game ever question that so many people fight over, would it not be logical to state that the best game ever is the one that sells the most? I mean if one game outsells another then apparently it is better. So that would lead to the conclusion that Half-Life is the best game ever and Halo is the best Xbox and second best game ever based solely on sales. Now personally I like both about the same. But if you are saying one is better than the other want want to prove it look at sales.

Because I want both equally I cannot come a decision of one over the other. So if more ppl buy one game then it is likely more worth my first investment, although I will be getting both, just not right away.

Cannot possibly start a flame war. Halo2 is on xbox only and HL2 is only on PC. Apples and oranges there.

one thing you gotta remember about half life, its like 10 years old. and half of those copies sold were so people could play counterstrike. i played halo 2 the other day, i didnt think it was that great. multiplayer may be better than half life 2 but the weapons are very much like unreal, very long delay between fireing and when the round hits. i cant stand that. i wont be getting half life 2 for a while either, no way in hell im paying 50 bucks for a game. ill wait till its 30 bucks on some holiday sale at frys.

Not really cause you can buy CS seperate. Anyhow I have about 200 saved up and that means I can either buy and xbox with Halo 2 or buy HL2 silver pack and another game. But I only had enough to do one, i decided on HL2, according to gamerankings it just edged out Halo 2 plus i just got my shiney new 6800 GT and I want to see what the card is made of(D3 looks insane but its not very fun, scary, but not fun. I've heard that HL2 looks even better). Plus maybe i'll get a free copy of TFC2 when it comes out and I'm looking forward to the Project Hull Breach mod for HL2(it was in PC gamers HL2 review).

If you don't already have an xbox it isn't worth it to get one just for halo2. With that system of yours you will have MUCH more fun with half-life 2. The physics engine is soooooo fun to play with. Just get hl2 and spend your other ~$150 on caffine to keep you awake while you play hl2 nonstop

I just got HL2, it is so sweeeett!!! There are parts that look better than the outdoor levels in doom3!!! The bumpmapping(where they choose to use it) is incredible, it is much more detailed than doom 3. The physics are just as finominal, its realy fun to hold a barrel in front of you while the combine are shooting at you and them fling it into them. Plus there are some really cool puzzles to solve with it.

Doom3 had good graphics but HL2 has an extreme realizm factor that Doom3 lacks. That makes it extra sweet

That is what I have noticed. Doom 3 is really sweet looking, but it does not look "real" where HL2 very accurately represents what we see in the real world. Plus Doom3 has no interesting story at all, it gets quite repedative during the middle levels.

I don't want to spoil your enjoyment of the game, so stop reading if that is worrying to you.

I'm quite impressed with a number of aspects of the Source engine, however it is doing major faking with regard to lighting and shadows of people and objects. Just check out where the light sources are in a given scene and then pay close attention to how shadows are responding to that. It doesnt really spoil the gameplay for me and I find the physics thing much more important (especially in gameplay) but I do find it annoying because I know it can be done better. It is also, the reason why you cannot shoot out lights in HL2 or CS:S because that would require a radically different approach to how to handle lighting and shadowing in the engine.

So yes, the gfx are sweet but they do not represent what we see in the real world very accurately (and should we care about that? gameplay is more important i think). The water modeling in source is really very good, very impressive. I'm a bit annoyed at not being able to see my own body or not see the effects of myself running around in water.

O well, just my 2 cents worth.

the water is good i just am disappointed because it is still not right(even with alot of games) the reflections bend in water(IE. if something is sticking out of the water, the submersed end would appear to be shorter or bent than what it really is) but i think they made some steps on it though.

Well i just finished hl2 and it sucked. Definatly halo 2 !

Of all the game i bough half life 2 got to be the worse...

Halo 2 > Doom 3 > Farcry > Painkiller > Serious sam 2 > Serious sam 1 > Duke nukem > Doom 2 > Doom 1 > Half life 2

I didn't try Half-Life for a couple of years after it was released, and it didn't impress me that much. I thought the aliens looked really stupid and it was frustratingly difficult.

Amazing, isn't it? And now people are complaining about HL2 being too easy.
Apparently it is hard to get it exactly right, in fact it is impossible to get it exactly right for every individual game.
