Hi all,

I've got a Phaser 550 with an error 12. On
http://thecopiernetwork.com/thefor [...] sgid=82465 I read some parts from
the service manual for this error. I have the following questions about this error.

1. Is it possible to differentiate between a broken laser unit, a broken scanner unit, a
broken driver board and a broken sensor? I removed the cover from the laser scanner unit
and watched the motor spin up to high speeds. I checked the laser with a self-made laser
power meter and it did produce a short pulse. Of course these are only qualitive
measurements, so I don't know if it is working properly. I do not have all kind of spare
parts so before I buy some parts I would like to know whether it will fix my error.

2. The instructions mentioned above say you must check the following cables:

* a flex printed circuit between CN502 of the Laser Driver Board (LDB) and CN550 of the
Laser Scanner Unit (LSU). The LSU is the board with the rotating mirror I assume. There is
a flat cable (which you could call a flex printer circuit) going from that board to a
little board outside the unit, but these connectors are labelled as CN an CN2. I can't
find the CH502 and CN550.

* the cable from the LDB to the ECU, CNXXX to CN3, and, Check the cable from the LDB to
the ECU, CNXXX to CN8. Combined with the previous instruction the LDB would be the little
board connected with the scanner board, but I guess the LDB is the board connected with
the laser itself which is indeed connected to CN3 and CN8 on de ECU. This is important
because the first solution in the instructions is to replace the LDB which doesn't seem
sensible if it is the board connected to the laser.

Does the fact that the connectors are labelled differently mean that the little board has
been replaced before? Or are the instructions just not accurate?

By the way I did check all the cables connected to the scanner unit and they are fine.

3. Why is the board with CN570 (which is in the scanner unit) never mentioned as a cause
for this error? My guess is that this is the one causing my error 12, because the laser
and the scanner are operating.

4. I it possible to replace a laser scanner unit yourself or do you need to do all kind of
alignment procedures that are not possible without special equipment?

4. Where can I buy a laser scanner unit (I live in the Netherlands)

Thanks
