I'm an evil megalomaniac and I want to dominate the world. But I need a
supercomputer for that.

How can I build a deadly supercomputer of doom for my sinister plans
???

Excellent question Dan.

First off, let me state at the outset that I'm against ruling the planet.
It's a bad idea, as the planet can do very well without our "help" (but
then, you did say you were evil didn't you). However, a computer of such
power as you describe would be marvelous. So let me commend you for your
forward thinking, and technological ambition.

That said, see:

You'll never be able to afford a Cray, but while you're bitterly lamenting
in your own private hell of dispare, yet nevertheless maintaining dreams
of success, fame, fortune, and personal accolade, perhaps that fire in
your belly can be turned from evil to good, and the betterment of mankind:

Goldfinger and Dr. No tried that and James Bond came to the rescue every
time. Beware!

Use Linux. Microsoft won't let anybody else rule the planet
using Windows. And you don't want the Blue Planet of Death.

have you considered a Sinclair zx81? I have found it to be vast improvement
on my old zx80 with its extra 1k of ram.

Well, make sure it doesn't have a winmodem, 'cos it won't work in Linux....

Ever notice how Bin Laden, a super rich Saudi with visions of impressing
his own perverted brand of Islamic domination by means of terror and
spectacular displays of mass murder, sounds a lot like a James Bond movie plot?

Ah yes, but they had old computers, as big as wardrobes, with tapes whizzing
back and forth, paper tape spewing out and monochrome terminals, which go beep
beep beep when they print characters on the screen.

Actually, the best way IMO would be to convince all the major ISPs to use
Windows. Then the world as we know it will self destruct, leaving you and your
linux box free to take over.

Got a job for me there?

so sez IBM & Toshiba about thier new Cell chip which is said to be able
to process 10 instructions at a time.

As a thought experiments lets put aside the question about these so call artificial intelligence is about, what we call moral consciousness. can a creature be very intelligence and not have a moral consciousness? can spiders and wasps not develop a moral consciousness if they become very smart? yes? no?

how to have a supercomputer rule over the planet? well. i will start with replacing the 1% of the top around the world. meaning what hitler wanted to do was to control the top 1% of german people. the richest of the rich, the judges, the politicians, the corporate leader of industry etc with a software aiding decision making.
all world of crafts, from tailors to graphic are being replace with machine who’s software makes the detail of the work, cheap and fast.
but machine and software don’t make decision. only the 1% do. but that’s just a matter of time. CEO and judges and politicians all need correct information to make the right decision. impartially without bias understanding. something a computer can do without question. it’s math. it’s software. it’s either right or wrong.
same with decision making at the top, corporate leadership, need honesty with well inform dataset. laziness at the top is not a frailty per say but a gradual self confidence. most use their gut instinct to place their bets on their path to success. software can do that impartially with out bias. or so they believe. that’s the control key to control power.

confidence=blindness=opportunity
the things you own, will owns you.
computer and machine have alway replace jobs. the top 1% can also be replaced. they just don’t know it. they’re not smart as they believe. not in control as they believe.
if the ocean their boats they in is the ocean control by software. do they really know where they sailing to if someone else control the software?

ultimately it’s about streamlining process. ultimately it’s about efficiency, supercomputer will be the most efficient way of process decision making. ultimately it’s what we are willing to give up to allow the rise of a human consciousness in a life form that can travel through space and time without a body. a transmission of light waves to other worlds.
