Hi,
I am about to assemle a new PC and have a tough time trying to decide which
harddrives to get. I plan to get 4 SATA disks and use them in 2 Raid0
arraysor use a Raid0 array as a system disk and a Raid1 array for data.
The mainboard will be Athlon64/Nvidia Nforce4 based.
The ones I am considering now are the Maxtor 200GB DiamondMax 10 (NCQ) or
the WD 160GB Raid Edition.
The specs seem about identical for the two drives, except Maxtor has NCQ and
WD has "been enhanced for RAID operation". The drives cost exactly the same
here in Norway.
I have searched the net, but can't find a review which pits them against
each other.
Any tip is most welcome, perhaps I will be better off getting a Seagate,
Hitachi or
Samsung disk, I am open to all suggestions.
You might need a little bit more info. I will not
use the PC for games, apart from the ones bunled with XP. My main apps are
Photoshop and publishing plus some developement work.
Which graphics card will fit my needs? I was thinking in the lines of an ATI
600XT or Nvidia 6600 based card.
Any thoughts welcome!

The Nvidia 6600 card will do much more good compared to an x600. The NCQ on
the drives helps lower access times, but I head it does not work all that
well. If I where you, I would pick the drive with the longest waranty. Then
again, Nothing beats Raptors!

Western Digital Raptor drives. 10,000 RPM and SATA but the fastest
drives on the market.

The Seagate Barracuda 7200.8 ST3r00832AS was the #1 rated drive (even
besting the Raptors) in PC Worlds March 2005 hard drive tests.

The transfer rate is a tiny bit faster than the Raptor, but its not worth
the loss in access speed! The minimal speed on the raptor is 20m/s faster
than the Segate. Im sure thats more knoticeable anyhow. If you want speed,
the Raptor is the deal, If you need storage, then the Segate is the deal.
But for a 300 or a 400gb drive, it sure is nice.
