I just finished build a computer and I having some issues with Windows XP
Professional. After I installed Windows XP, I keep getting an "Autoplay"
window with a searching flashlight and a status bar showing up every 10
seconds or so. Also I cannot change the display settings from 800 x 600.
Other than that, it seems to be working fine.

Hardware installed:
Intel D915GAVL Socket 775 Motherboard
Intel P4 530 3.0Ghz 1MB Cache 800fsb SocT 775 HT
Corsair Value Select 1024MB PC3200 DDR (2 x 512MB)
Seagate 200GB Serial ATA HD 7200/8MB/S-ATA-150
XFX GeForce 6200 PCIe 256MB w/DVI/TV-Out
Majestron SBT-CR16W 16in1 Int Memory Card Reader
CD / DVD Rom
CD-RW CD Burner

I am sure I am having a conflict of some kind but I can not figure it out.

Don't have an answer for the "Autoplay" thingie, but did you load the
drivers for your video card?

What is the autoplay feature looking for? Files on a CD/DVD, or on your
memory card? If you don't have a CD/DVD or memory card inserted in the
applicable drives, it could be a corrupt registry setting causing the
constant Autoplay search. You could try a repair installation of Windows to
see if that restores any missing/corrupt files or registry settings.
Instruction on doing so can be found at
http://tastycomputers.com/support/faq/xp_repairinstall.htm.

Regarding your display settings, have you installed drivers for your
graphics card? If not, instructions and a download link can be found at
http://tastycomputers.com/support/download/nvidia_graphics_drivers.htm.

Hope this helps,

jaredj34,

Well, I can't solve your problem but I can sympathize and offer a clue
and workaround for the short-term. I just build a computer and have
the same problem. It lies with the Sabrent card reader (exact same
model: SBT-CR16.) I disabled the hardware in the device manager
until I can research and solve it entirely. No more annoying
"autoplay..." every 10 seconds. But then again, NO doggone card
reader either. I have a couple other card readers and have never
experienced this kind of issue. By the way, Sabrent's site is
www.sabrent.com. If you find a "real" fix before I do, I would
appreciate a quick email to keh2001@cox.net, if you have the time.
Good luck, and I will follow up here, if I can solve it entirely.
