I have two machines one laptop, and one desktop running through a
router, the firewall settings are identical on both and each is set to
trust the other and teh router.

i can ping the laptop from the desktop but not vice versa.

Both connect to the web and access sites,

the laptop can connect to msn messenger and other stuff such as p2p etc,
and update spyware programs etc and AVG.

The desktop cannot do any of this just surf the web. All anti spyware
applications, Messenger and AVG cannot get updates and just report an
error but the laptops equivalents can.

Both machines are running through the same router sharing broadband and
the laptop is on a wireless adapter.

I had to use the removal tool for Norton internet security, Rniupg.exe
which got rid of a install of corrupt NIS. I had also to remove
shedloads of spyware too from the desktop and browser hijackers. Has
windows become corrupt of sorts? I have no previous system restore so
how might i rectify this problem as i need access from the desktop to
these facilities?

also i cannot use the web version of messenger from the desktop but can
the desktop.

The router shouldnt be a problem else it would affect the laptops
performance too. What do you think the problem is?

im in the midst of removing a trojan too from the desktop.. could this
be it? Is a re fromat necessary

Regards
