You don't have a removable disk such as a Castlewood Orb or Zip drive, do
you? I had an Orb and WinXP wouldn't boot without a disk mounted. It would
hang at the "Knight Rider" screen until a disk cartridge was inserted.

It could be bad RAM, motherboard, etc. Do you have different RAM
to try? Did you try running Memtest86 on a boot disk?

As has been mentioned by KC Computers it could be faulty memory. I
have experienced similar problems with a faulty Hard Drive being the
culprit. I also had similar problems caused by the CDRom not being up
to the job.

As Ruel suggested, it could be a piece of hardware that XP does not
know how to handle. It is wise to remove any hardware that can be
removed when encountering such a problem. Once Windows is loaded,
install one piece of hardware at a time. That way if it fails to detect
the hardware or boot properly, you can remove the hardware and seek the
proper driver.

It might also be what Kevin suggested. It is always wise to run a
memory test before doing any additional software trouble shooting when
Windows won't load properly.
