How do i get windows 7 to recognize my emmerson monitor

I am running a Geforce GT 240 in a HP Pen 4 quad core with 1 Terabit hard drive and a 19 in LCD HD Emmerson TV / PC Monitor and i can't get the sesolutions to match with out having to resize the desktop to a smaller resolution. And all my resolution are not available can someone please help me get my comp sinced with the Monitor so i can enjoy my time playing instead of trying to fix it please?

Seen this before.
It has to do with the way you have connected the pc to the tv/monitor.
I suspect you have connected Rgb to Rgb, or Dvi to Rgb.
If that is the case then the sreen resolution will be limmited.

In order to get all of the resolutions to display from the graphics card to the tv/monitor you need to get a.
Dvi to Hdmi cable.
You can get one of these cables at a good local computer shop.
If the monitor does not have a Hdmi port then there is not much you can do.
