It's been a engineering fact for years that hybrids don't sell.... This is the latest attempt..... You have to loose big money to engineer them.... Then loose money to "Lot Rot"..... The very people that cry & whine in focus groups that they would buy them, don't!!!!! It's a cycle that keeps repeating every time the gas takes a jump..... Undoubtedly, with this low volume vehicle, the added cost, scarce special parts, this car would more than likely cost more to drive that a conventional vehicle.....
So much for the hybrids saving the energy crises....... Where's the environmentalists & their money???? Looks to me like they want to solve the worlds problems, with your money, not theirs..... Which has been the case in the auto industry for decades.... [shrug]
Good rant.... I'll add nothing
Didn't mean to rant.... [/shrug]
Oh well, on to the important stuff.... *Belch*
RC, they will mate. Just needs time. I cant afford to run my V8 now, mate.
I'm focked with gas prices. Absolutely focked. Cant afford to run my mates around town pissed drunk.
It's been happening since the 70's & doesn't look like the trend is ready to change anytime soon though.....
I know mate. Its good to see you.
But RC it has to change. It just has to.
I tell you what. I hate paying gas companies. I also hate knowing that some of my paid gas money goes to Iran. You and I discussed Iran the other night and you know how I feel about them.
Fock em.
You know how I feel about paying for anything, Fu[i][/i]ck Em!
Bingo!!!!
That XK8 aint gonna be miserly on the gas. No focking way.
Looking at the Civic and Civic Hybrid: the hybrid touts a 42% increase in fuel economy. . . it costs 4640-- MSRP-- more (after average taxes and fees applied to MSRP it could be closer to 6000).
Assuming an average fuel at today's 2.761 (in the US). . .
One would have to buy and use 2941 gallons of gas to break even.
Assuming 14000 miles a year at 50 mpg: 10 and 1/2 years.
edit: This does not take into account tax credits.
further edit: for 2006, its $2100 for the Civic Hybrid
Around 16 MPGish, I can live with that. I'll only be driving slowly, wouldn't want any fcuker to not see me.
LMFAO!!!!!!!

That's beautiful!
05 Hybrid sales doubled over 04. My father bought a Prius when the current
generation came out. He didn't do it to save money, but to try to do the
right thing. He averages about 45mpg. It actually has more room inside than
my Accord. It's actually a really cool car. He payed 22k for it. They came out
on a Fri, he bought Sat. Only had to wait 3 weeks for it. He's had not 1 prob with it.
RC, have you seen BMW's idea on a new type of hybrid? It takes heat from
the exhaust from 2 points and uses a closed circuit (no topping off) to produce
steam, then in turn electicity. Unlike current hybrids, increases mpg on the hwy
instead of around town. Very cool.
I wouldn't mind a hybrid, but it doesn't benefit me much. Currnet ones don't
gain anything on the highway aside from the small engine. My dad get's in the
low 40's on the highway I get high 30's. I do mostly highway so I'll take the
extra hp...
Extra HP could save your life. . .
...or cost you it if not careful.
ok. . . torque, then
Elecric motors excell in producing torque. Once they put in bigger ones, look out!
They cut production of the Accord Hybrid. They can't sell them. About $3000
more than a loaded EX V-6. But the Hybrid is actually faster. It's as quick to 60mph
as the 244hp 6spd coupe, while getting slightly better mpg than the little 4-banger!
I'll bet not being able to get a moonroof in a $30,000 car hurts sales some. I know
I'll never get another car without one.
Moonroof. . . Sunroof too dangerous for you?
Sunroof=manual, moonroof=power operation. I've had both, and I much prefer
hitting a button over getting out, popping it off and throwing it in the trunk.
If it's not raining, it's open. The best is a clear star-filled night in the winter
when it's 10 degrees, with it open, windows closed, and the heat cranked.

Never mind piss drunk. I figured the other day that it takes me about $8 per day to drive to work and back. Wifey too... That's $80 between us just to get to work!
That sucks my ass.
However, I have the solution... Put everyone on a motorcycle!
Here's one for RC and Auburn to ride together!
Seriously, as I am getting older, and I have a motorcycle sitting in my garage, the gas mileage is becoming the deciding factor to get it fixed up and to get my license.
I ain't riding no popcycle!!!!!!!
Tell you what though..... Bought $5 worth of gas to mow the yard yesterday & ran out before I got it mowed.... More than likely cost me about $15 to fill up the tractor.... That will get the yard mowed twice..... MPG don't mean squat when it comes to lawns....... So I'm looking at a $15 a week gas budget on the yard the rest of the summer...... :x
*Bastage*
I got a acre Man!!!!! No Way!!!!
| Quote : I ain't riding no popcycle!! |
My full sympathy here! That's a motorcycle I'd enjoy to sit on! 8)
Sweet!!!!!
I'm more of a Harley fan, myself though......
Nice bikes but why do they all sound like a typewriter?
no problem!
this is based on a harley! just more fun than the real one, imho!
It's their sound, always has been & will always be, afaIk.... [shrug]
A bud at work has a Honda 1800. 100hp and 100ft/lbs of torque. No problems
climbing the mountains of VT on that!
Apparently a sunroof and moonroof are the same with the following exception: moonroof is translucent.
That looks like a pretty sweet bike!!!!
I'm in an area with a lot of 2 lane tarvies.... A bike could save me a lot of gas in the summer......
BTW Put the sleds away for the summer, yesterday.....
You've got an acre and NOTHING ELSE TO DO!
So it takes you longer to mow the lawn, so you get to drink more beer.
I don't see the problem here!
I was speaking in the general way they're refered to. Lets not get too technical
over a hole the roof.
My understanding (god forbid someone actually looks it up) is that sunroofs don't open or only vent, while moon roofs open completely, as the objects in the night sky are less visible through tinted glass / plastic.
But what do I know?
Personal preference I think. Convertibles rule anyways.
Yes. I love my Jeep!
That's another thing that really scalds my scrotum... The people with convertables that have the tops up on gloriously sunny days... Take the 2 minutes and DROP THE TOP!
Why buy a convertable if you aren't going to use it?
Sorry all...
*climbs down off of soap box.
I've got more to do than walk around the pondee all day!!!!!
Apparently, they wer all sunroofs until fancy-pants Ford motor company decided to call theirs a "moonroof". . . there ya go. Mystery solved.
I didn't own a car until 2002, anyway. I cycled or took a bus anywhere I needed to go. Now my road bike (Cannondale R800) is quite deceased. I need to rebuild the wheels, new chainring bolts, new shifter cables, new chain. . . anyway, I'd much rather just buy a cheaper hard tail trail bike.
If I could afford it:
Well, that explains it. I sold Ford's 90-91. I'd been brain-washed and didn't
know it!
Side note, learned this on the local news last night.
If you were to buy a hybrid with today's current cost of gasoline, you can safely expect to see a return on your money invested in the hybrid after 13 years of ownership.
What?? I have to own the damn thing 13 years before I start to see a savings?
I'll stick with my V8 and 21mpg.
You got that right!!!!
| Quote : Assuming 14000 miles a year at 50 mpg: 10 and 1/2 years. |
That's for the Civic Hybrid vs Civix LX.
Remember this does not take into account tax credits, dealer incentives, ect. . .
It also doesn't take into account repairs and replacement of those cells should they go bad. Those cells aren't cheap and they do wear out.
It's not a truly proven technology.. it hasn't been in mainstream use to be proven yet.

Not entirely true. Electric motors are very reliable and the battery technology
is nothing new. Now, getting it all to work together is something different.
Hybrids have been out since '99 and in those 7 years have consistantly been more
reliable than the average car. As for the battery packs, they are expensive now,
but they'll drop in price and as of a few months ago Toyota said they haven't
had to replace a single one that wasn't involved in some sort of accident. Also,
and I'm going off of memory here, (too lazy to google) in states with Cali.
pollution standards, since the batteries are considered part ot the equation
that helps lower them, they're covered for 8yrs/100,000miles.
My dad's Prius after 2.5yrs has not had 1 single failure. The only issue was
a recall on some to reprogram the engine management software.
Hey RC, what's this new "FROST BREW LINER Locks in refreshing frost brewed Rocky Mountain taste" blue label thing around the top of the Coors cans in this 12pack? You're one of their spokesmen. That new? Supposed to make it taste any better? I would have thought that sealing the can locked in all that Rocky Mountain taste, but oh well. Give us the lowdown, man.

You know what I've found interesting with Mercedes? Is their diesel push. I must say, I've been a trifle surprised by their investment in diesel engine technology. They've really gone for it in a big way when I would have thought that diesel technology would be something that a major company like Merc would want to leave behind. I mean, from a marketing perspective, diesel is hardly trendy and new, yet they are marketing their new diesel tech engines as being enviornmentally clean yet efficient and powerful.
Interesting stuff.
From what I've read, the European makers are very stubborn when it comes to
hybrids since it's the first thing they can't accuse the Japanese of stealing.
With low-sulfer diesel, you can add catalitic converters to greatly clean those
oil-burners up. As a bonus, diesels produce less CO2 than gas motors. I'm
curious as to why we haven't seen diesel hybrids, although there's a few in the
works.
I don't know anything about it!!!! They better no Frick up my Coors Beer!!!!!! :x
Diesel is the preferred fuel of the third world..... It's not that big of deal through out the rest of the industrialized world...
