I would like some suggestions for an inexpensive, reliable inkjet
printer with a low cost per copy My needs are for labels (CD,
mailing, etc) simple one page brochres, etc. I don't do photos and
don't need the 'bell & whistles".

Consider a Canon i560 or i860. Low initial cost (check out BestBuy.com for
the i560 with a rebate), low operating cost. Refilling cuts the ink cost so
low that it isn't a consideration as to how much printing to do. Even though
at this time you aren't concerned about photo quality print capabilities
these printers are great for that as well.
