HP 5850 B&W printing only?

Can this printer be run with the black cartridge only?

What I'm *really* looking for is a 1200x1200 b/w printer with built-in 802.3.

Yes, you can remove the color cartridge and print with black only. The printer
will automatically switch to the proper mode.
