I'm recently putting together a new system to replace one that finally
died a couple of days ago, although I'm canabalizing the old system
for usable parts. The system specs are:
Intel Pentium 4 3.0GHZ (Prescott)
Intel D865GBF motherboard
1 GB of Kingston PC2700 RAM (2 512 MB sticks)
Leadtek Winfast A350 Ultra TDH (GeForce FX 5950)
New case (not sure of brand) with 400 Watt power supply
The components I am using from my old computer are:
2 Western Digital IDE Harddrives (120 GB and 20 GB)
DVD-ROM drive (IDE; Generic)
Yamaha CD-RW 2400 IDE
Standard 3.5" Floppy Drive
Soundblaster Audigy
The first motherboard I had would not even POST (seems to be problem
that not only I had, after a short search). The fans and LED would
turn on but there would be nothing after that. After exchanging it
for the same motherboard and watching them test it in the store, I was
able to get a POST to perform, although I could only view anything
when hooking up the monitor to the onboard video component. It also
took quite a long time to enter the BIOS setup. The BIOS was only
showing the floppy drive being detected. None of the four IDE drives
showed up. After some fiddling and moving of memory modules (I had
mistakenly put the two sticks in Channel A Slots 0 and 1 rather than
Slots 0 on Channels A and B), I was able to get life out of the new
video card. However, the IDE drives still don't work. The ribbon cable
are plugged in correctly and everything.
If anyone has some advice, I would greatly appreciate it. Thanks!
