Hello,

I have an Athlon 1700+ and ECS K755A motherboard.

When it boots up the black screen and Sisoft Sandra say the chip is an
1100 Mhz cpu. Shouldn't it be 1700 or at least higher than 1100?

SiSoftware Sandra Bios info

Any suggestions as to why this happening? How can I get the speed to
increase properly?

Thanks,

Tmuld.

Set the FSB to 133 instead of 100

Snooky did it again .. set up for 133MHz.
133/100*(1100)=1463 the 1700+ is rated at 1467MHz.

Hello!

Thanks for the help!

I went to the bios - Amibios Setup 2000

The CPU PnP Setup section

There you can modify the CPU settings - to 100/100 mhz 133/133 mhz and
166/166 mhz or a combination

What do I set it too 133/133mhz?

Thanks!

Tmuld

I guess that the first figure you're quoting is the CPU FSB clock, and the
second is the memory clock.
Set it to 133/133 and you'll have standard XP1700 performance as per AMD's
specs.
Give it a try at 166/133 and you'll overclock the CPU and get a bit more
performance - if it won't take it then come back down to 133/133.
If you go to 166/166 then you'll be pushing the memory faster as well -
memory doesn't usually overclock as easily as CPUs do.
Kevin.

What memory do you have in that board? IIRC that board takes both SDRAM
and DDR. If you're using PC133 SDRAM, or DDR266 or above, then 133/133
should be fine.

I doubt it. But why 166/133? The 1700+ should be 133/133 default.

Clear cmos and reboot.

Thanks to everybody's help...I am back up...but for how long...?

My jackassery caused this problem and I will be more careful. Yup, I
looked at the mobo manual. Did the jumper thing...hope it stays
well..

But I want to update my BIOS...what do you think?

Thanks all!

If you don't need a feature from the updated BIOS, don't do it. There's
always a risk of hosing your motherboard during the BIOS update.
