How can I prompt for a password when installing software?

Last response: in Windows 7

Hi everyone,

My friend was asking me if there was a way to prompt for a password when installing software.
I suggested to create a limited account apart from his administrative account. In doing this, I know that it will not allow the limited account to install software and will prompt for an administrative password. He would rather have everything located under one account, but I am not sure how to do that.

Is there a way to prompt the user for a password when installing software, without creating a separate "limited" account?
My friend is using Windows 7

Thanks

You can have something similar to what he wants. You would still need 2 accounts though, but don't have to switch between the two.

Setup a regular user, and when you need to run something as an administrator, right-click on it and select "Run As.." from the options. This will work for pretty much any program and installer.
