I'm building a computer for the first time and I'm having some problems I
hope someone can help me with.

Here's the sequence:
I bought a DFI NFII 400-AL mobo with an AMD 2800+ processor, Hitachi 7K250
160GB HD, a Radeon 9800 Pro video card, a Mitsumi CD-RW, and a Fudin ATX
case. I installed everything, loaded Windows XP and all the appropriate
drivers. System worked fine except that I found out that the the integrated
sound was not working and could not be fixed - manufacturer told me to send
it back (even tried installing a Sound Blaster Live card with no luck).
Bought another mobo (Shuttle AN35(N)-400), kept and installed all the other
hardware.

When I try to boot the new system with only the HD, I get a BOOT DISK
FAILURE error. BIOS recognizes the HD. Checked the boot sequence in the
BIOS and made several changes in the sequence (HDD-0, none, none; Floppy,
CDROM, HDD-0; etc) all with no luck. Also, it seems like the HD isn't even
spinning up. Could having Windows XP from the previous mobo be the problem?
Also, when I connect the CD-RW, thinking I would reinstall XP, POST sequence
gets to "Detecting IDE Drives" and hangs - no power getting to the CD-RW.
Checked all the cables, connections, etc. All seem fine.

Please Help.

You didn't mention your master/slave settings. Are they correct?

repair install of XP, however you should have done this BEFORE the
first boot after the exchange of the hardrive.

My experience has been that you cannot boot a hard drive with 2000/XP
already installed connected to a different motherboard.
