hi,
Im relatively new to building pc's, I hope someone could help me. Ive just
built a Celeron 600, 256MB memory, XP Pro, and everything was working fine
until i fitted the modem. At first the modem showed up in the device manager
as working and ok. When I installed the internet software my modem wasnt
picked up for some reason, so i tried updating the drivers from the CD-Rom.
The modem name changed to Best Fax Modem and then the Blue screen of Death.
Every time I booted the PC it was fine until "found new hardware", then the
Blue screen followed by the crash. There is no reference in BIOS to onboard
Modem, and i dont know how to rectify this problem, ive since taken modem out
to get the system running again, but im completely stumped. Id appreciate any
help.
Thx Steve

If this is an internal modem, you need to go into your BIOS setup screens
and DISABLE the onboard com (serial) ports of your motherboard. If you are
looking for a modem in the BIOS screens, it won't be listed as "modem".
Turn off the com/serial ports. Then regardless of what type of modem you
have (internal, external, usb, whatever), you need to go to the
manufacturer's web page and download and install the latest drivers for it.
Never use a driver that is on a CD-Rom. At the time the CD-Rom is created,
the driver on it is already out-dated. -Dave
