i am going to upgrade from a amd 1.4 to a amd 3000 xp, please recommend a
good board (i like msi).

i don't want to spend alot

also, what is the best amd processor to buy at this time

The processor you chose is pretty good. But add about thirty bucks to your
budget, and you can get an Athlon 64 2800. If you like MSI, there is the
MSI K8TM-ILSR. It is a micro atx format, but it has everything built in
(lan, audio, firewire, usb 2, sata raid). Thus, three PCI slots should be
more than enough. Also, it only has two memory slots, but the Athlon 64 is
not dual channel anyway, so two should be all you need. Buy a big stick
now, and if you want more later, you have an open memory slot. -Dave

Actually it would be about $110 more for an Athlon 64 2800 & motherboard,
if he sticks to MSI.
