I have just replaced a couple of the cartridges. Two others are low (as
indicted by the windows status monitor and the LCD) but not empty. How do I
tell this silly light to stop blinking?

Oh I do hope your wrong.
I have come to the conclusion it may be the new black cartridge which is
showing as 'unknown' all the way down the status monitor. Probably not
chipped correctly or faulty chip. The 2 Jettecs show up okay.

If one cartridge chip is faulty, you could have this problem, all
chips/cartridges will be shown as unknown, unknown date, unknown
manufacturer, etc. Take care, in this situation the chips don't record the
ink level, when they recover it will show more ink than they would contain.
