Let me say this, I've coached, played, & been involved with sports through out my life.... Soccer is a game I've never played or been involved with, until last Thurs......

My grandson played floor hockey all during the winter.... He's 5 years old... It's too early for T-ball to start, so most of the team signed up for spring soccer.... It's a short season & then on to T-ball....

I went to my grandsons first game & knew that this was a game I knew nothing about, but was willing to learn & have a good time with the grandson & son.....

First sign of trouble was a parent going at another parent over something.... I still don't know what set things off!!!! Of course it was a black parent & a white parent.... I mean these guys are toe to toe & bucking bellies!!!!! They stopped the match & parents & coaches are going at it all over the field.... I didn't know what to say or do, because I didn't know what had happened to cause this..... The game restarted & the first time ended....

They switched ends & started playing again.... Then it happened!!!!! A black kid was being out ran with the ball & he jumped on this kids back from behind & dropped him!!!!!! All hell broke loose at this point!!!!! Parents were hauling their kids off, liberal racial hatred was being spouted on the field, & coaches were in the middle of it!!!! My grandson came running out of the crowd crying & didn't know what was going on at all..... The black coach was using the field for his agenda & preaching to all the white, lack of roll model, parents!!!!! Sh-t was going down fast!!!!! Game was called!!!! I got the grandson the hell out of there as the black parents were making a big deal honoring their kids & giving high 5's for poor sportsmanship!!!!!!

I'm telling you, as long as I've been involved with all forms of sports, I've never, ever, seen anything like that in my life!!!!! I was looking forward to learning about soccer, being the world game that it is.... I'd heard about the "Soccer Mom" syndrome before, but this is the first time I have seen it with my own eyes!!!!!

Needless to say, my grandson isn't going to play soccer anymore....

That is very unfortunate. Not all leagues are like that. I guess there will always be racist idiots in the world, which is truly sad.

However, soccer is a great sport.

There is a lot of action and it is very interesting. Don't give up...find another league.

Friggin' parents. Trying in vain to relive past or non-existant memories of the
past. This sports sh!t has gotten out of hand. A couple of dad's have actually
named their kids after ESPN. Insane. Sports is cool and can be fun, but a lot
take it way too far. The bigger the sports fan, the smaller the dick I think.

Most of the f**kers can't play worth a damn too. A guy at work that's all he
talks about. He's short, fat, and dum. I went to high school with him too. He
was always the last one picked, and the first one out. Typical.

I got my best volleyball spike ever off of him. Off his face, net, upper chest, net,
big belly, floor. Beautiful, like pinball.

My 7year old plays soccer with a bunch of mexicans. I would hate to see that happen here. Mexicans have very good sportsmanship. Dont let a few bad eggs spoil your grandsons growth. Im with crizazykid2 on this one.

Please don't let that bad experience stop your grandson from learning and enjoying a proper sport.

PS It's correctly referred to as 'second half' not 'second time', that gave me such a chuckle.

8O 8O 8O 8O Dude I'm no soccer fan but it's the national sport of 3 friggin continents for Christ's sake. Although I might wish otherwise if there is ever an inter galactic sports federation I suspect Soccer {football to the ruddy Brits} would be the officially recognized sport of this planet.

I prefer Our brand of football. A real mans sport.
And before you do don't throw "Rugby" in my face {Tom} I doubt even your He-Man rugby players could deal with our 6'5" 290lb 4.4 second 40 yard dash runnin' monsters of the midway... with or without pads :)

205 nations attempted to qualify for the 32 available 2006 World Cup places, including the USA (currently ranked 4th in the world, behind Brazil, Czech Republic and the Netherlands). I think that proves that almost everyone plays football.

My friends who have kids have the same problem when it comes to soccer around here. It's out of control. I'd chalk it up to lack of knowledge on how the game should be played though by the parents.

That being said, there is something to be said about hockey. Get him involved in that.. Plenty of good college hockey teams up there for the future.

I agree with the intent of your post Rob (to prove soccer is a sport) but you have to agree that that ranking table is a joke. I mean, USA on 4th, something must have gone seriously wrong there, don't ya agree?

Well, here I read how the ranking process is done, but still given what comes out of it, there must be something seriously wrong.

And to RC: I'm really sorry your first experience turned out that way, and I would love to tell you that it has nothing to do with soccer, but then again, it doesn't help to deny that there is a hooligan problem with the sport (at the very least in Europe there is) and that it is something that I have not yet observed in any other sport, also not other big European sports (so it's not just a single continent issue either). I really have no idea why it's soccer that seems to draw in all this negative energy.

Oh, the ranking system is total bollocks, always has been. While I'm not denying that the USA has a very good team, but better than Spain, Argentina, England? Now I know they're in a crap qualifying zone (so are the convicts, but they're languishing in 44th) and virtually strolled qualification, but so did we (a few hiccups aside) AND we twonked Argentina too, so what gives?! It's head scratching, truly.

And lets face it, the minute Brazil are diposed from the top, FIFA will devise a new system to keep them on top of the pile.

Proper sport, yes. As opposed to your other efforts, netball and rounders. Don't even mention hat other farce where fat blokes charge around and have to stop every 2 mins to catch their breath.

Unless you've played organized, don't knock it. I don't go around knocking your ball kicking sport even though I find it to be one of the most boring sports.

I fall asleep watching soccer.. I'm a hockey fan though and I guess the two sports could be somewhat alike. I like the faster paced sports.. soccer to me is a slow sport.. ranks up there with golf, curling, and baseball..

Reply to Riser

Fcuking doddle. I'd have a whole 0.4 seconds to leisurely take aim and twat it with my bat. I'd like to see you stop a penalty. You'd have 0.25 seconds in which to stop a football moving at 100mph, with your hands and into a much bigger target area. Pitcher has to throw it to you not past you. Pussy sport.

Thats excellent mate. Its a great game. I'd wished it had been my first choice over rugby league although that said I do love my RL and the old man would have disappointed if I'd not played the game that he had.

At any rate, its good to know your lad is giving it a go and succeeding. Crikeys, I look at the volume of kids not interested in playing sports and it scares me.
