Sounds like you are using a 32-bit version of Win 7. 32-bit operating systems can only see 3.25GB of memory. The rest is there, just not directly accessible by the operating system.

This is normal and nothing to worry about. The only way to access all of the memory is to move to the 64-bit version of Windows 7 (or any other OS for that matter).

Good luck!

The rest of that memory is reserved for your onboard graphics since you don't have a discrete gpu.
Adding a gpu and disabling onboard vga will give you a full 4GB of ram.

If it really, really is a 64-bit version of Windows then your boot settings may be limiting the amount of RAM that Windows will use. Try this:

- Click "Start", type "MSConfig", press <ENTER>
- Click the "Boot" tab
- Click the "Advanced Options..." button
- Make sure the "Maximum Memory" checkbox is UNchecked.
- Reboot

But if you're running a 32-bit version of Windows then the other posters are correct and these instructions won't help.

The limit is not really a limit, but rather an option. The kind of option that is turned on, much to your dismay...

That link will explain how to get more than 3.25GB RAM recognizable and usable on your 32-bit Windows OS.
