My Expert WD205BA-00AKA1 died a week ago, and I think the logic is faulty, so I'm looking for any drive that I can swap the PCB off of. I have no back-up of anything on the drive, so if i can't find a new PCB I'm gonna lose everything I've done in the last 4 yrs. Unfortunately, some WDxxxBA drives are expert and some are Caviar. I need any WDxxxBA Expert drive with functional electronics, the WD205BA being preferred. The following drives should work: WD273BA (27.3 GB); WD205BA (20.5 GB); WD136BA (13.6 GB); WD102BA (10.2 GB); WD68BA (6.8 GB). Since my drive was actually made by IBM, in theory these drives might also work. DPTA-373420/ 372730/ 372050/ 371360 (7200rpm, 34.2/ 27.3/ 20.5/ 13.6 GB). All Deskstar GXP drives. If you think you have a drive whose PCB will work on the WD205BA-00AKA1, PLEASE email jordann@umich.edu.

if all else fails, a data recovery place might have the pcb, or might have a recovery unit that will be able to transfer your data to a new hd...
that situation sucks...
good luck and sorry, but i only have some 5 gig wd caviar drives...

I've heard that data recovery is in the neighborhood of $500+ dollars. Unfortunately, I don't have that kind of money to spend. Is there a cheaper option, or place?
