wireless connection problems...please help

i have a d-link router connected to my cable modem. my laptop sees the
connection but won't connect. there are no error messages, it just returns to
its original display without connecting. i reset the router but it still
won't connect. i can connect to public networks, just not my own. i tried to
connect with no security enabled but it still won't work. any other
suggestions on what i can do?
