Hi all. I have a samsung i700 phone/PocketPC PDA. I am trying to use it as a
modem to dial out from a Windows CE subnotebook device (HP Jornada 820).
I've got a cable, but the phone shows no sign that it knows the Jornada is
trying to dial out with it. Any suggestions for debugging this problem?

Don't know this phone at all however, if it's anything like others I've used
you first need to set it up as a modem. In other words check out it's
setting regarding comms.

Not sure if this is going to be possible.

The only connection info I have seen is a usb to laptop tht requires
windows drivers to connect.

Since I don't believe the hp has usb host capabilities, and even if it
did, don't know of any i700 drivers, don't think it's going to be possible.

....question... since the i700 is more powerful than the HP, what's your
ultimate goal that can't be acomplished using just the i700??

ho, kay... if you are determined ;-)

http://thesupplynet.com just released a serial cable for the i700...
might be a starting point to experiment... note... it comes with a
serial driver which the i700 does not have from factory. With that, you
will be faced with the question of getting the phone to feed the cable.

Back to the i700... technology, as we all know, is a compromise, so a
keyboard would meet at least part of your needs... samsung has one and
there are several ir options out there.

yep, if it's possible, I'd like to do it.

hmm. I think it was their cable I bought (I can't find the paperwork for
it now). Have you played with their serial driver? If I install it, it won't
mess up my ability to sync will it?

good point. I'll check into the keyboards. The screen size is still an
issue of course.

>> I think it was their cable I bought... <<

If it was, it shipped with a label less CD that contains an installation
cab for the i700 and one for the G1000... afaik, the i700 will not
communicate serially without the driver.

>> mess up sync <<

Since i700 cable sync is usb, shouldn't relate.
