I was wondering how to hook up my digital camcorder to my PC , I have
already downloaded the software. the plug that the manual says to hook
to the computer fits either the com1 or com2 ,which one should I hook
it up to , I'm new to the PC world and was wondering how to upload my
pics to a web site. thanks in advance for any help or advice, BigG

You need to look at your manual more closely. Some camcorders (ie:
Panasonic) have a serial connection to xfer pictures(still) to the computer
but use a Firewire(1394,MiniDV) for the video. You need to use a
Firewire(1394,MiniDV) cable for video.

If you actually are connecting to the serial port, most commputers today
only have one. You just have to tell the software whitch one the computer is
set up for. If it doesn't see it on 1 try 2,3 or 4. In the past computers
had multiple serial ports.

Hi in my manual it says pc connection cable, it does not say 1394 or any
thing . Also I have an older HP model and it has 2 ports right under
the printer cable port that this Pc connection cable for my mini Dv
camcorder will connect to. I'm just want to tranfer stills from my
camcoder to the PC, again thanks

If your just wanting to do still pictures your on the right track. Just plug
into one of the serial ports and try com port numbers till they connect.
Some programs have an auto function that will find it for you.

My Panasonic PVDV53 digital camcorder(Mini-DV) uses a serial cable to xfer
still pictures but uses 1394 for video only. I have a separate digital
camera so have not tried the serial connection. A serial connection for
Mini-DV video, if possible will be painfully slow. I believe my nieces JVC
calls it a DV cable but its still a 1394.
