Hi,

I'm considering doing a slightly clean reinstall of win98se.
This is on a clone pentium computer with a gigabyte board.
That entails deleting the windows directory and registry,
and having to reinstall all programs. I don't want to
format because I'd like to skip the hassle of reinstalling
all my data and directory trees.

However, while looking at the list of programs under
Add/Remove, I spotted the following two listings:

a. W98-ME Promise MBUltra133 (PDC20276)(tm) IDE Controller
b. W98-ME Promise MBFastTrack 133Lite (tm) Controller

When I boot up I notice on the dos screen the 'Promise Lite' program
running. If I delete Windows won't this program be deleted?
Is this something I will have to reinstall or not? I'm assuming
this has nothing to do with flash bios motherboard programs.

Thanks,

MB

for best performance you will need to install the drivers for your
controller...
og you no longer have the floppy that came with it
or cannot locate them you your drive
simply re-download them from the mfg's website

Your plan of NOT fully reformatting will most likely lead to nasty ongoing
Registry errors.

And I stand by by comment that your incessant babbling about "nasty on
going registry errors" is nonsense.
