Hehe, was asking the same question a year ago. I contacted Eizo, and apparently, for some odd reason, black LCD's can't comply. It's weird- maybe GoSharks can elaborate on this. I basically just heard that black cannot comply.

What if your life moved.....2 inches to the left?

Many companies do not produce black monitors because black monitors cannot meet the new TCO-99 ergonomic requirements. I believe it has to with the contrast of a white screen image next to a black bezel creates some sort of eyestrain during long periods of use. Also back monitors use a plastic that is not easily recyclable. These monitors will eventually end up in a land fill instead of being recycled. Recycling is another requirement of TCO-99.
