Ok, I still havent got my psu yet, and I decided to try the 300 watt unit
that came with the case
is that not enough juice to power the AMD XP 3000+ 333fsb?
initally I had all devices hooked up.
the CD Rom flashes happily, and I can hear the HDD spin up
the floppy I think might be defective, it gives no lite or a steady lite
depending on which way I hook up the cable
the ABIT NF7-S mobo has a power lite, and a power on lite, both shine. I
feel certin the front panel connectors are correct. I did disable the wake
up features.
I have the HDD set to no setting and attached to the master ide cable on
IDE1 on the mobo.
the manual suggests putting my first dimm in the #3 spot being a single
512mb unit
I get no signal to the monitor through the agp ATI RADEON 7000 64MB DUAL
HEAD at any time. It is a dual head is there a main port I should connect
to or either one should work?

I feel fairly sure I installed the mobo, processor, cooler, and swith/led
wiring correctly
do I have to have anything but the power switch connected and the pc speaker
connected to test?
I have disconnected just about everything but the front panel leds and the
reset switch
I can't see where I might of gone wrong

properly built a system should go to BIOS when plugged in and attached to
only a KB and MON right?

thanks!!!!!

Only if you are tapping on the 'DEL' key as it boots up.
BTW, there might not be a problem with your floppy drive, could just be the
cable.

You haven't quite been clear enough as to what is happening when the you
start the computer. Does the fan on the cpu spin? How did you manage
to get into the BIOS to disable the wake-up features if the computer
isn't able to boot?

All you should need to get things started is 1 stick of memory, the cpu
and fan, display card or onboard graphics enabled and attached to a
monitor, power to the board (possibly also to the cpu via a 4-pin header
by the cpu), the power button connector attached to the mobo and the
speaker connector attached to the mobo to listen out for error beeps.
Forget about anything else until you can get past POST and boot info
displayed on the monitor.

Sorry for the lack of better info, it was late and I was a little
frustrated.

anyway the cpy fan and psu fan spins, I can hear the hdd spin when its
plugged in. I disabled the wake up features by way of jumpers on te mobo.

I was thinking the floppy might be sick.
I didn't think to try tapping del
I still didn't have any video on the dual head agp card, is there a main and
secondary port?

Look on the new motherboard near the CPU for a square 4-pin header
connector. If it is there you MUST have it connected to your power supply to
boot. If your older 300w does not have this square connector you can get an
adapter cheap from almost any computer store.

Disconnect ALL IDE and Floppy cable. Remove ALL adapters and memory. If
you do not get continuous series of beeps you have a problem with PSU, CPU
or motherboard. Try with new PSU when it comes. If you bought CPU and
motherboard from same place, return them as a pair.
