Hi can anyone help please. My scanner connected to LPT1 stopped working.
Computer ceased to recognise it and when accessing the Twain driver it just
juddered until it was switched off.
I have replaced this with a borrowed USB scanner which works fine but the
printer which was connected thru the scanner has now stopped working. Windows
keeps saying it is 'off line'. It only works when connected via the old
scanner and the scanner is turned on (this previously wasn't necessary)and
not when connected direct to the computer. I have tried reinstalling the
driver, reinstalling the LPT1 port and changing the BIOS settings from EPP to
ECP, EPP and ECP etc without success. It's driving me mad so any help would
be appreciated.

Try uninstalling your printer. Start | Settings | Printers, select your
printer, right click and Delete.
Shutdown your machine, and remove the scanner from the LPT port. Plug the
printer directly into the LPT port, and start your machine.
Re-install your printer by following the Setup instructions in the printer's
manual.
It's possible the scanner has "gone to God" and is interferring with the
communication through to the printer.

Good Luck,

Thanks BarryG
Followed your plan to the letter but alas the computer still doesn't
recognise the printer. Any other ideas?

Test the printer capability by attempting to install it on another working
computer.
