Help! Kids delete files

Please help, if you can. My husband has gone away, my kids used his computer
and now the my documents folder is practically empty! The recyle bin has
been emptied too. They both deny all knowledge, but I can't see how else
this could have happened. My husbands college work has disappeared, so if
you have a way of restoring files that have been deleted out of the recycle
bin, please let me know.

It would be VERY BEST to shutdown the machine, unplug it, and await your
husband's return to repost here for instructions on how to attempt the fil/s
retrieval. Any further work on the machine, even booting it, may destroy
the personal data.

And the kids may have inadvertently DL'd a piece of malware which has done
the dirty deed, i.e., not they who intentionally did so.
Be calm and await further advice, please.
