Please help, if you can. My husband has gone away, my kids used his computer
and now the my documents folder is practically empty! The recyle bin has
been emptied too. They both deny all knowledge, but I can't see how else
this could have happened. My husbands college work has disappeared, so if
you have a way of restoring files that have been deleted out of the recycle
bin, please let me know.

Thank You

It would be VERY BEST to shutdown the machine, unplug it, and await your
husband's return to repost here for instructions on how to attempt the fil/s
retrieval. Any further work on the machine, even booting it, may destroy
the personal data.

And the kids may have inadvertently DL'd a piece of malware which has done
the dirty deed, i.e., not they who intentionally did so.
Be calm and await further advice, please.

I agree 110% that the machine in question should be switched of ASAP, and
not restarted until data recovery is about to be attempted.

B.J, undelete looks good, but it's only for WinNT kernel not Win9X, and you
have to have it BEFORE the files were deleted.

Not much use for this customer.

Something like SpinRite from Gibson Research www.grc.com could be of use here.

Good Luck.

Thanks for catching that. Used to be one for 9x systems also, but thing of
the past. There are some others out there, including the one in (yuck)
system works and some other freebies a quick search turns up. Iolo has one
I have used for years that does a half decent job for not much $.
