I ran PCITEST downloaed from http://ubcd.sourceforge.net/, and, I get
the following message:

"ROM PCI IRQ routing table Windows 9x Compatibility Tests....
No ROM PCI IRQ routing table found!!!"

Does anyone have an idea about it ?

Thanks for you help

I don't think I have this option in the bios settings (but I'll check it )

thanks

Whatever the PnP OS settings (yes/no), I get the same result: No ROM PCI
IRQ routing table found.

I haven't found anything looking like an ACPI option in the bios settings.

I don't know if this can help you, but, I have a dual boot W98SE/linux.
and, in the linux logs, I have this curious message:
"Nov 26 16:24:27 kernel: PCI: Cannot allocate resource region 0 of
device 0000:00:08.0"

the device 8 is my vga card as described here:

Bus 0, device 8, function 0:
VGA compatible controller: ATI Technologies Inc 3D Rage II+ 215GTB
[Mach64 GTB] (rev 154).
Master Capable. Latency=64. Min Gnt=8.
Non-prefetchable 32 bit memory at 0x10000000 [0x10ffffff].
I/O at 0xde00 [0xdeff].
Non-prefetchable 32 bit memory at 0xffeff000 [0xffefffff].

It would seem that my processor is not able to access directly to the
video RAM... but, i'm not sure of this.
what do you think of this issue ?

thanks

Your BIOS apparently doesn't have a PCI IRQ Routing Table so Windows will
not be able to dynamically route PCI IRQ assignments.

http://www.microsoft.com/whdc/archive/pciirq.mspx

what's the impact of this missing table ? should I do anything with the BIOS
?
in the following link (http://www.microsoft.com/whdc/archive/pciixa.mspx),
they talk about my chipset (PIIX4 chip set): it would be possible to get the
IRQ routing on my W98SE. I only need to run regedit and update the right
registry. but, I know there's some risk to use regedit....

thanks

Judging by the IRQ list you gave, pretty much nothing.

You could check for a BIOS update.

What motherboard is it anyway?

That page isn't really for users but it suggests that maybe you didn't load
all the motherboard drivers: in particular the miniport driver, if it has one.

Besides you having found this IRQ table message in a diagnostic program,
just exactly what in your system isn't working?

I dit it 3 weeks ago. since this update my dual boot system (w98se,
linux) is instable.
I leave a message here following some concerns I had with the update
program: http://members.driverguide.com/driver/detail.php?driverid=55924
but, I have no answer from them :-(

PC Chips - M572. the doc is here :
ftp://ftp.bns-computer.de/bns-computer/SUPPORT/MANUALS/MAINBRD/m572e.pdf

here : http://members.driverguide.com/list/company796/page2/index.html
there are 2 drivers: one for the bios (M572 Driver) and the other one
for the motherboard (M572 Mainboard Driver). I only use the first one. I
'm not sure i need the 2nd one.

for example, I am not able to reinstall linux anymore. I have errors
during the installation.
regarding w98se, I have many difficulties to install network and sound
chipset drivers. before this BIOS update, I was not faced to those concerns.

thanks for yopur help

additional informations :

in the PCI bus properties:
- the stering IRQ properties mention "IRQ table read from the bios with
the help of the real mode interface" and "IRQ miniport has been loaded"...
- the parameters mention : use hardware is crossed and not use bios

thank you for your advices

Well, I see that BIOS file but, other than the person that posted it, I
have no idea where it came from or who made it.

Here's the PCChips downloads for it.

Sorry, I was not precise enough. M550 isn't my mobo. it is M572
(http://motherboards.mbarron.net/models/pcchips/m572.htm ). here, you
can find the ID of my mobo before the BIOS upgrade:
51-1216-001437-00111110-071595-I430TX-001_10_TX-H. with this ID, you can
find the BIOS program (990224S.exe) that I use to flash my BIOS.
you can find it there:
http://members.driverguide.com/driver/detail.php?driverid=55924 . you
can notice the ID is exactly the same.

on the website you send,
http://www.pcchipsusa.com/support-discontinued-bios.asp#M550, there is
the 5728b27.zip which contains only 1 file: 5721127.rom. No boot file
like aminfxxxx.exe. I ask on driverguide website why there are 2 files
on their website. but, I have no answer.

I don't know what to do. I cannot find again my old bios (971216S.ROM).
i would be sure i use the right program (990224S.exe) for my bios.

thanks

I understand that. What I don't understand is why you think "M572 BIOS
File: 5728B27.ZIP" means M550.

There are three listed:

M572 BIOS File : 5728B27.ZIP (11/27/98, 115KB) ... for the M572

M572A BIOS File : 572A0630.ZIP (6/30/98, 115KB)... for the M572A

M550 BIOS File : 5501117S.ZIP (11/17/97, 124KB)... for the M550

Obviously, if you have an M572 you use the one for the M572.

What I don't see is what version your board is. Look for a version number
near where keyboard plugs in e.g. V 1.2, or 2.5. etc.

Yes, I notice. But I don't know where it came from or who made it or what
it was supposed to 'fix'. And I don't know if they did it right. But since
you have problems with it...

It is typical for mobo manufacturers to place only the BIOS image itself in
the 'BIOS' download and the flash program in a separate download.

It's the flash program.

Neither can I. It's so old that it doesn't show up on any 'update' lists.

Try here. http://bns-computer.de/Support/mb_572.htm

It's in german but decipherable and they have a BIOS update for the M572
later than that outdated PCChips page (which I found through a back door as
they no longer list the M572 ANY where on their site the 'normal' way). The
24.02.99 5720224s.rom (same as the 990224S.exe BIOS) notes say it fixes
drives > 8.4 gig. (page also has the flash utility as a separate download,
like I mentioned).

Or, you can pick any previous version.

I also found this patched version of the 990224S for enabling
K6-II+/K6-III+ processors (I used a similar patched BIOS on my now dead
M571 and it worked fine). Their patched BIOS refers to the 990224S as the
'original' source they used to patch and create their 990224SJ.ZIP version.

http://web.inter.nl.net/hcc/J.Steunebrink/k6plus.htm

After all that it kind of makes me think it isn't the BIOS that's your
problem. Did you clear CMOS after the flash?

no, I don't. I only say that I found, on driverguibe website, 2 files
matching my M572 : 5728B27.ZIP and 990224S.exe. I used the 2nd one. but, I
hope it's the right one fitting my bios.

I don't understand what you mean with "keyboard plugs". where can I find
this number ?

I know this site, but, as you say, with a "normal way" - as I did -, I was
not able to find those informations.

do you think I can use the 5720224s.rom without fear ? If I face to
concerns, I 'll be able to use the 990224S.exe to go back to the current
bios. correct ?
do I use amifl815.exe or amifl634.com ?

Or, you can pick any previous version.

I also found this patched version of the 990224S for enabling
K6-II+/K6-III+ processors (I used a similar patched BIOS on my now dead

But, as you know, neither I have K6-II+/K6-III+ processors nor AMD.

After all that it kind of makes me think it isn't the BIOS that's your
problem. Did you clear CMOS after the flash?

Yes, I did. I can clear again ?

thanks a lot for all those infos !!

Then why do you keep saying "M550 isn't my mobo"?

They both 'fit'. They're different releases at different times. "990224S"
is apparently the 'newest' and last one they released.

You have a keyboard. It plugs into the motherboard. Look where it plugs in.

They're the same BIOS (or are supposed to be) but I trust that the
5720224s.rom is 'official' while I am not so sure about stuff submitted by
lord knows who on the various flavors of drivers.com

> do I use amifl815.exe or amifl634.com ?

I'm not on that page any more but, barring a note on it to the contrary,
I'd use the later version, meaning amifl815.exe.

Doesn't matter. It supports all the same ones, PLUS the K6-II+/III+ processors.

Unplug the machine and reset CMOS for a couple of minutes; then put the
jumper back to normal.

Outside of my PC: It plugs on DB-9 serial port behind my PC. Nothing is
written around. On the left, I have the mouse plug, and, on the right,
the parallelle port.
Does I need to look inside of my PC ? on the mobo ?

Either you have the strangest self modified keyboard I've heard of yet or
you can't possibly mean your keyboard is on a DB9 serial port.

Doesn't matter. When I say where the keyboard plugs in I mean where the
motherboard expects it to plug in. The ROUND connector.

I flashed the bios with the 5720224s.rom and amifl815.exe programs. the
results are exactly the same, got, before, with 990224s.rom

I also clear CMOS.
